The present diversified and expanded building is indeed a far cry from the original, small, red brick high school structure of 1897. There were also many events and developments which made this year one to be long remembered. This MEDINIAN Staff has attempted to capture a few of these memorable moments of defeats and victories, of tears and laughter, and of purpose and study. Therefore, it is the hope of The Staff that this record of the year’s “Changing Times” will serve as a lasting memento of student life at Medina Senior High School in 1964-1965. TABLE OF CONTENTS SENIORS. . . JUNIORS. . . SOPHOMORES PERSONNEL SPORTS fe H i CLUBS ADVERTISING . Mr. Corl Edwards, our longtime annual adviser and friend, was claimed by death on December 12, 1964. An educator for many years, he was an administrator, department head, and faithful supporter of all professional activities. This v olume of the MEDINIAN was to have been dedicated to him. This he never knew. Thus, the dedication becomes a memorial to Mr. Corl Edwards. The Officers of the Senior Class, Patty Herman, Secretary; Tom Buchanan, Treasurer; Rog Smalley, Vice President; and Dick Cromwell, President; show the spirit set by the class to make the “live hive in 65”. SENIORS The Senior Class of 1965 has been one of the most out- standing classes yet to enter the halls of MHS. The seniors have proved to be leaders in academics, citizenship, and athletics. Through participation in various functions and organizations, they have helped to make this school year a huge success. During their sophomore year, the seniors fulfilled the traditional task of choosing class rings. As juniors they were in charge of the concession stand, with Mr. Stirm as advisor. All proceeds went toward the success of their prom, “Lolli- pops and Roses” held May 2, 1964, at the Wedgewood Country Club. Before the opening of the ’64 football sea- son, the seniors contributed the “MHS” which is located on the south slope of the stadium. As a result of the efforts, enthusiasm and interest of the senior class, this has truly been “a live hive in ’65”! i ' -0 1 p V Larry Monegan Abbott Band 10, 11, 12; Drama 11, 12; Math 12; C.A.A. 12; Audio 10 , 11 , 12 . Mr. Tibbits looks on the bright side as he informs Dick Cromwell: “Just because they’re ahead 48-0 doesn’t mean they’ll win.” The 3-6 record posted by the Battling Bees during the past football season can be partially attributed to the lack in size of the line and inexperience in the backfield. Three of the games ended with defeats of only one touchdown which could have meant that with a win, the record could have been reversed. The choir appeared at the Thanksgiving, Christ- mas and Easter Assemblies at the high school. Their public appearances included the annual Christmas Vespers Concert, April Spring Con- cert, May High School Music Festival, and the Baccalareaute services in June. Choir music was selected to give the singers the widest possible range of musical styles and schools of choral composition. Bach’s “Sleepers Awake’’, and “O Sacred Head Now Wounded”, Gibbon’s “The Silver Swan”, Handel’s “And the Glory of the Lord” and “Hallelujah Chorus” were some of the classical, selections used. Rub- bra’s modern setting of the Hastings poem, “Eternitie”, was a feature of the 20th century selection of composition for lighter numbers. The choir performed the music from “West Side Story”. Queen Patty Herman and her four attendants, Barb Matacic, Kim Lincoln, Jan Post, and Judy Herthneck, reigned over the triple event this year. A vigorous pep assembly, parade and bonfire were held Thursday, October 8. With the rain pouring down, the Medina fans chanted as a Fairview Warrier was burned in effigy. Following many tense moments, Friday arrived along with the eager Warriors. Queen Patty presented the game football to the team with her good luck wishes for a Bee victory. The battling Bees fought hard in their attempts to win the game for their Queen, but fell in defeat, 18-0. Saturday evening, October 10, marked the presentation of the Queen and her attendants at the “Harvest Haze”. All of the girls appeared at their best, with sparkling eyes, for this was a night of many memories. 100 Front row: D. Toby; F. Ewing; E. Smelser, Vice President; L. Abbott, Treasurer; G. Medina, Ohio Closing Remarks When we selected “Changing Times” as the theme for our 1965 edition of the MEDINIAN, we could not foresee just how appropriate it would be. Upon becom- ing seniors, we found various changes evolving in our attitudes, in our ways of thinking, changes which enable us to better separate the important from the unim- portant. Moreover, with building construction going on all around us, physical changes also have been made from day to day, period to period, in our normally routine school lives. The school has changed, we ourselves have changed, for these are indeed “Changing Times”. The Staff of this MEDINIAN sincerely hopes that the students of Medina High School will find this vol- ume suitable for a permanent memento of their “Chang- ing Times” of 1964-1965.
