We hope it is much laughter and not too many tears. It is for the future we have edited this 1955 Medinian. It contains the past and the present although, as you can plainly see, our theme is entirely future — space travel. Through its pages you will find comets, stars, spaceships and other “spade toys”. So hop aboard our flying saucer and whiz through the Universe — into the future — through your 1955 Medinian. Student Council is the function of our school which handles the problems of our students. It is one of the links between the stu- dent and the faculty. It is composed of representa- tives of all the classes and of various clubs. The Student Council, this, year as in the past, has been busy working on new ideas for the betterment of our school. They sponsored the Holiday Hop at Christmas time and helped with our Homecoming. They also handled noon recreation and selected the assemblies which were brought to our school for education and en- tertainment. 48 ACTIVITIES DRAMATICS FIRST ROW: Ardys Hough, Betsy Edwards, Nancy Jo Miller, Marilynne Wetzel, Toni Crum, Betty White, Carol Williams, Pogie Ziegler, Pat Whitmore. Their help in making the mid-winter social event of the year, the Y-Teen Formal, a success was not only necessary and needed but was greatly appreciated. The Girls Athletic Association once again sponsored their annual foot- ball banquet in honor of the football team. Another of their main events of the year was the G. A. A. Homecoming which was held in December. G. A. A. girls from both present and past years had a day full of fun at the annual playday and potluck supper. This year also the G. A. This included a “face lifting” job — painting the walls. They also furnished music, refreshments, and en- tertainment for all who were interested. They had a ping pong tournament which was won by Alan Burnett after the many competitors were narrowed down. All in all, the Hi-Y members and officers had a very successful year. 60 FUTURE HOMEMAKERS OF AMERICA FIRST ROW: Nancy Quillen, Sharon Mattingly, Brinca Jo Patton, Jeannette Jones, Leah Wright. The 1955 Medinian staff has labored long and hard to present you with your annual. At times we’ve been “out in space” trying to find new ideas. The editor and the copy editor wish to thank our faculty advisor and every- one who has spent long hours working with the slide rule, India ink and adding machine to bring the Medinian to perfection. 68 ’ROUND THE CLOCK QUEEN FOR A DAY Queen Phil and co-captain Joe Kasel. Preceding the homecoming game with Fairview there was an assem- bly and a parade in the afternoon. Before the start of the game, Phyl- lis presented the football which won the game for Medina to Joe Kasel and Bill Collins, Medina’s football co-captains. At the dance following the game the queen was crowned, climaxing another very successful home- coming.
