The Medicine Lodge I-ligh School cagers finished the 1960-1961 season winning four games out of eighteen, but held the distinction of being the only team in the Southern Kansas League to defeat the league winner Anthony twice during the season. With all but one of the lettermen returning for next year's season, these two wins plus league victories over King- man and Kiowa point to an exciting season in the new gym for 1961-1962. Prior to the Southern Kansas League Meet, the Indian Tracksters had trouble completing scheduled meets due to bad weather. However, they won duel meets from Coldwater and Kingman, and lost a duel to Pratt. The coaches entered several boys in the Sterling, Win- field, and Anthony relays and had several finish for points. In the Pratt Relays, the Indians finished third behind Kinsley and St. john. After their third place finish in the league meet, those Indians who met the qualifications for the Regional Meet worked hard and the team scored 9 U2 points in that meet, the most points scored by M. L. H. S. in a Regional meet for several years . Two boys qualified for the State Meet in Wichita: Dale Myers in the high jump and LeRoy Blackwell in the mile run. While neither of these two boys were able to garner any points in the state meet, they gained valuable experience that will help them next year. Things are definitely looking up in track at Medicine Lodge! 65 Indians Finishing in Top Three Places in S. K. L.
