An FHA member, Kay attended the state con- vention asafreshman and also attend- K 1 . ed Girls' State. Offices held by this charming blonde from Reserve were sophomore class president and senior secretary. 5 NNW, Editor-in chiefof the BDA WAUKA was dapper VANCE PETERSEN, He was the junior class President and treasurer of the seniors' scanty funds. Playing sax in the band for four years, this neat, well-dressed young man was also advertising manager of the HONKER. Dark-haired, quiet VIOLA LIZ- OTTE spenther freshman, sophomore, and senior years at Lake, but went to Sidney when a sophomore. She en- joyed art work, and energetically painted senior class play scenery. A future teacher, she also belonged to FHA and chorus. 0,4 5 Husky, broad-shouldered DWAIN JOHNSON was a great asset to the journalism class as well as to the ath- letic teams. Although he found it easy to sleep in class, he was never caught napping in the fields of basketball, football and baseball. He controlled funds for the FFA for two years and showed promise as a future farmer. GAYLE PETERSEN, a tall blonde Lake girl, played corner in band for three years. As a sophomore she was a cheerleader and as a senior she was in the class play. Circulation man- ager for the BDA WAUKA and photo- grapher for the annual, she also put in many hours on the alumni roster.

Most famous for his talented left hand, KENNETH BARSNESS was re- sponsible for all the art work in this book and the BDA WAUKA. Besides this his main interest was sports, and he was picked as one of the ten top players at the basketball tourney in Plentywood during his senior year. This dark, good-looking basketball captain would like to capitalize on his drawing ability by taking drafting. Big Brekke certainly wasa fitting title for 6'2 , 185 lb. GARY BREKKE. Gary sang in chorus for two years, but aside from this he enjoyed athletics. A sharp crew-cut was always his trade - mark when he played football, basket- ball, and ran the mile in track. This happy-go-lucky gent plans to attend college. 0,4 5 Small,quiet DOLORESI-IAASE,who hailed from Homestead, was an honor student and tooted her trombone in band for two years. Among her fa- vorite subjects were German and Typ- ing Il at which she excelled. This friendly, dependable girl was always willing to help out in any of the sen- ior's activities. Lean and lanky, 6'3 JIM HAT- FIELD was distinguished as the tallest member of the senior class, Also knownforhis red Chevy pickup, many ofJimmy's happiest hours were whiled away at the wheel of this vehicle. A S3WiODllOl'lC player in the band, a member of the chorus, and a piano player for her own enjoyment, Ruth Ann considered a career in music. Mechanicalgenius, LELAND JEN- SEN, was the proud owner of a '41 Chevy that changed colors every now and then. Tootling on the clarinet and singing bass in chorus were addi- tional interest of this blond young man who answered to the names of Sonny or Doc, At graduation he hailed from Lake, but previously he had lived in California and Reserve. Trombone artist GERALD LYN- GAAS played solos for many events and led his section in band. Besides this he backboned the bass section in chorus. Science and math were Jerry's favorites, and he planned to continue in that line. He acquired a reputa- tion asa dryhumorist, and by the time he wasaseniorhad a large vocabulary of mile-long words, which he tossed around in an accomplished manner. Ugf wiuy DENNIS LARSEN, a Dagmar Dane, added much to classroom hu- mor. He could always be counted upon to work hard on class activities and many times burned midnight oil in an attempt to get the BDA WAUKA out on time. Dane also took and de- veloped many HONKER pictures. He belonged to FFA for four years. Dagmarite LEROY LODAHL had the reddest hair in the class and was easily recognized by his fondness for western attire, including cowboy boots. He played a part in the class play, but his main interest was zipping around in his cream-colored '51 Mercury. An enthusiastic sports fan, she was A team cheerleader dur- ing her sophomore year. In her last year at Lake, humorous, likeable Pearl was selected to go to the FHA conven- tion.
