People always hear and see what the President, Vice-Presidents, Department Heads, etc., in a progressive and growing business, have accom- plished. But these accomplishments are usually not possible without the busi- ness firm's lower echelon. In our School System, a good school usually becomes an excellent school because of the support staffn -the backbone of any school. M.H.H.S. has such a support staff and we, the students and teaching staff, appreciate this hard-working group of individuals, and with this statement are officially acknowledging this fact.

EEDED RECOGNITIO MEDICINE HAT HIGH SCHOOL'S VICE-PRINCIPALS Medicine Hat High School has three vice-principals who work with the principal and other members of the educational team to implement the goals of MHHS. The supervision and improvement of instruction are the major part of the administrative team,s work. They are expected to spend considerable time visiting classrooms and attending various meetings concerned with the instruc- tional program. Each vice-principal is responsible for attendance and discipline for a senior high grade and one-third of the grade nine students. Associated with each vice- principal is a member of the counselling team - Mr. Massini and Mr. Wilson, Mr. Pols and Mr. MacFarlane, Mr. Alcock and Mrs. Russill. Together, they strive to assist students who require support in attaining their educational goals. During the past five years the work of the vice-principals has changed. Report cards, student and teacher timetables, attendance records are now handled by an' in-school computer. This change has meant that the vice- principal responsible for computer services has to spend more time at this task than was the case when all the record-keeping was done by a private computer firm. Another change has been the District's emphasis on teacher supervision and evaluation. Today, each vice-principal is expected to make at least fifteen classroom visits per year and to write reports concerning his observations. Some aspects of the vice-principals, work remains unchanged. Each semester they have a teaching assignment. Students visit the vice-principal,s office if they break school rules. School discipline is still a major responsibility of each vice-principal. Supervision of school dances and other co-curricular activities remain a part of their role. Vice-principals are key members of the educational team which includes the principal, counsellors, department heads, teachers and custodians. This team works with care and pride to provide students at Medicine Hat High with high quality educational opportunities. THREE CHEERS for our Vice-Principals! One group of many that are the forgotten and unsung heroesu of our excellent school, MHHS. Mr. Pols Mr. Alcock Mr. Massini l 13
