PEER SUPPORT TEAM - SADD STUDENTS AGAINST DRIVING DRUNK The M.H.H.S.'s S.A.D.D. Chapter started out as a branch of the Peer Support Team and is currently one of four teams in Alberta. Interest in this group is growing and soon it will be a team on its own. The Peer Support Team got interested in S.A.D.D. after hearing a lot about the program and its effects. With a SADD kit and one SADD tape already attained, we are well on our way to making a difference in Medicine Hat. Besides making presentations to neighboring city high schools, the group has designed a banner to be hung in the Medicine Hat Mall. The SADD Conference was a big part of this groups beginning where the Premier of Saskatchewan, Mr. Grant Devine, recognized the students' efforts to reduce drinking and driving accidents. Possibly, in the next school year, the Alberta Government will sponsor this program. We've had a great beginning and hope to keep the students of M.H.H.S. out of drinking and driving accidents. PEER UPPORT TEAMS 1987-88 was a busy one for the Peer Support Team. The team, whose main goal is to provide a caring support system for the students, consisted of 19 student members and 3 guidance counsellors. The year's events started off with a training retreat in Elkwaterg and soon we were found selling card-o-grams and petal-o-grams to the students. This year the students attended several conferences, the major one being the S.A.D.D. conference held in Saskatchewan. Here at home, the team gave a presentation to the school body about Students Against Driving Drunk which included a SADD tape funded by the Moose . We had a great year and hope we were there for some of you when you needed a friend to lean on. PEER SUPPORT TEAM - Guys In The Spotlightl' Now this one was a huge success! This event was put on by the Peer Support Teamg and it consisted of 13 guys acting crazy and looking good! In March, 1988, those 13 guys par- ticipated in 4 events designed to make us laugh - talent, speech, for- mal wear and beachwear. The par- ticipation was excellent and the guys' ideas unique. In general, it was a must-see and is strongly recom- mended as a must-take-in event for next year. Thanks to all the guys who made it a success and especially to the 1987-88 Guy In The Spotlight winner - Mark Bolding.
