MASTER TEACHER - 1987-88 We are in our fifth year in honoring a member of our Teaching Staff as the Master Teacher of MHHS for the year 1987-88. After four successful students' surveys during 1983-1987, the 1987-88 survey was equally gratifying. This year's teacher, surviving a four-way race, was Mr. David George. Mr. George writes: It is a great honor to have been selected Master Teacher of the year by the students of Medicine Hat High School. The award takes on greater significance when I consider how many truly dedicated and capable teachers there are on staff here. As I now prepare to leave the school for a one-year sabbatical leave, I have cause to reflect on the past ten years at MHHS. Undoubtedly, the most important memories involve the many wonderful, talented students with whom I have been able to associate and develop relationships in class, on basketball teams, and at various student social and sports activities. I have also been most fortunate to have worked with a number of hard-working, gifted colleagues in the social studies department and throughout the school. My philosophy of teaching is rather simple, but poses a number of challenges and leads to great feelings of satisfaction. In essence, I see teaching as a profession which places people above all other concerns. The needs of students must form the basis of all work done in schools. This has at times created difficult situations, but inevitably has resulted in the provision of meaningful, lasting education to young people. To be a part of such an endeavor is more than one could ever ask for. Once again thank you to the students of MHHS for this honor, and best wishes to teachers and students next year.
