Mr. Hosfield, since you were coop- erative enough to send us your picture, and since the delay in re- ceiving it was our own fault, we are giving you a full page layout. UVTWO CBNJC In the beg-inning of the school year, I sent out a letter stating that this year ' s X-RAY would be different from those of the previous years. I expect a lot of criticism on this book. However, I would rather have criticism than apathy. Most students on this campus are apathetic about this yearbook, and maybe this year ' s edition will help spark some interest in future X-RAYS. I am sorry that I was unable to have mug-shot type pages for all fraternities. The time element in getting this book out this year made this an impossibility. Class offi- cer and school officer pictures do not appear for the same reason. Also, there were only two photographers this year, as opposed to three on last year ' s staff. I cannot overstate how much I owe Straughan Beane, Jr., the assistant editor of this year ' s X-RAY. Straughan ' s contributions to this book cannot be counted. But I do want to state that without his help, this book would never have gotten finished at all. Special thanks are also due to Carolyn Flanary and Ann Sibley for doing such an ex- cellent job on their sections. I also want to thank Dean Bacon, Mrs. Perkins (of the Student Center), Mrs. Blacker (in the Medical School), Mrs. Broaddus, and Mrs. Soble for their assistance in the pro- duction of this book. Thanks also go to the Registrar and to Mrs. Kratz in the busi- ness office. Misspelled names were unavoidable. I will not apologize for unflattering pictures as it was not me who made them unflattering. I would like to thank the editors of Mad Magazine for allowing us to use likenesses of their characters (Mad Magazine, Copyright 1971). To H. C. Rudder: I ' m sorry that I had to steal your picture of the pig while you were out of town. However, I would have taken it even if you were in town. I also owe special thanks to my business editors whose pictures do not appear on the X-RAY staff page. My business editors were Susan Wickham and Priscilla Shoemak- er. They, too, did a fine job on their section. I hope that . . . somewhere . . . somebody . . . enjoys this book. I enjoyed editing it. Arthur L.
