You cannot yield to her whims or know the dark corridors of her world without having witnessed the awful truth of her pres- ence. So know ye the past, or watch out. Taking the tip, perhaps a brief review of the history of the Alpha Kappa Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Kappa National Medical Fraternity is in order, for our past is indeed glorious, and ye may learn much indeed by knowing it. It all started back in 1 866, when young Beauregard Ravenel returned from the Third Virginia Fusiliers to complete his medical education which had been rudely interrupted by the War. Beauregard, who still walked with a slight limp due to some shrapnel embedded in his left quadriceps femoris, rented an attic apartment above old man Thalhimer ' s general store on Clay Street, within easy limping distance of the School. The summer stayed late that year, and even into late October and early November, the grass remained green, and the leaves refused to fall. Many were the times when, after a hard day in the sweltering labs. Beau and his chums would gather up their rifles, then off they would go to ambush a few of the pesty squirrels that infested the wooded area in front of the State Capitol. Whenever they invited Herb Tareyton, the president of Beau ' s third-year class, who was well-known to be a great wit (and a ladies ' favorite), he would always reply with, Say, that ' s a Capitol idea! and everyone would laugh at the pun, including Beau, who was not lacking for wits either. Well, the summer dragged on, and everyone including good-natured Beau was getting pretty fed up with the weather when it hit ninety-two on Christmas Day. Most of the squirrels had been shot long since, there by making that Christmas recess rather dull. Occasionally, for lack of anything better to do, the lads would gather down at Ed Poe ' s house and coax that strange fellow into read- ing his poetry to them. He was an odd one, that chap, but always entertaining, and his Amontillado was superb. When school reconvened in February, Beau decided to organize a club to provide some regular entertainment for himself and his friends. They decided to call the club the Alpha Kappa Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Kappa National Medical Fraternity (Akcotakknmf). And that, as I said before, is the way it all started, back there in 1 866 when good ol ' Beauregard Ravenel returned from the Toynbee to shoot some squirrels . . . 34 Our Pledge Class OFFICERS President; J. Sincerely, The Editor How will you present your first denture case? Your patient is likely to be apprehensive. Chances are, you may be a little nervous yourself. In such a situation you will want to use every possible means to gain your patient ' s confidence and create the proper emotional climate for your diagnosis and treatment. Consider the Blend Selector for TVubyte Bioblend. It is an invaluable aid to natural tooth color selection. And, during the all important first appointment, it is a highly effective instru- ment for demonstrating your own professional knowledge and skill. The Blend Selector is so unique it is patented. There is nothing like it in the entire world of dentistry. Ask your Trubj-te Dealer to show you its use, in practice— for your first denture case, and for all the denture cases in your forthcoming career. TRUBYTE THE DENTISTS ' SUPPLY COMPANY OF N.
