' s fourth president- Robert Blackwell Smith, Jr. Appointed by the Medical College of Virginia as its fourth President, Dr. Smith comes now to lead and to serve this institution which he has known so well as student, teacher, and dean. In 1937, he was graduated from the School of Pharmacy with the degree of Bachelor of Science. After completing graduate work at the University of Florida and the University of Chicago, he returned to MC V in 1 945, as Assistant Dean of Pharmacy and Lecturer in Pharmacology. Two years later he became dean and late in 1 953, was elected by the College Board of Visitors to be Assistant President. He served in this capacity until July 1, 1956, at which time he became our president.

Dr. Smith pauses with his wife and his mother and father at the inaugural reception.
