MCP The Medical College of Pennsylvania Dear Graduate: This is a significant moment in your lives. It is a time of reflection as well as anticipation. In selecting this profession, as Ann Preston stated in her valedictory ad- dress in 1858, You decided for yourselves that here was a worthy and fitting challenge for your energies. These words are as relevant today as they were in 1858. The medical and science professions and you, face exciting and difficult challenges generated by the changes in health care and research. Your industry, with the support of your families, teachers, and friends has prepared you to meet these challenges with skill, confidence and courage. As you leave your Alma Mater, I encourage you to remember these words of Booker T. Washington: Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life, as by the obstacles which he has to overcome while trying to succeed. Hopefully, the fond memories of your many experiences at M.C.P. will remain with you and serve you well during your careers as alumnae i.
