FOREWORD When to the sessions of sweet silent thought I summon up remembrance of things past . . . No time in our lives will leave a more lasting impression than the medical school years. They were the first definite crystallization of long- held ambition that for some was definite; for others less well-defined; for all, imbued with love and concern about the problems of people. They were the last situation where individuality was, of necessity, schooled to a common offering, linking us together in a way deeply enriched by the variety of approaches we brought to it. More pain, joy, contentment, depression, fun, and hard work was our experience as medical students than is the experience of many in a lifetime. Heights of wisdom and sacrifice were demanded and, somehow, accomplished that lent us a new depth of character, an ability to cope. Best of all, embarking on the closest of relationships, that of the doctor and her patient, was the beginning of the most rewarding opportunity offered us in life. It is our sincere hope that all the myriad of emotions and attitudes we have entertained will be represented in this edition of the IATRIAN, so that, in years to come, the fresh enthusiasm we now feel will be renewed and our motives revived whenever we browse through it. It will also preserve something of our particular class spirit for all our friends we will leave behind. The Editorial Staff
