I erte LftO VWie NNuseN This is the second WMC admission for these well- rested, happy but wary, older and wiser women who characterize this period of life as being of such long duration ! The onset of symptoms was acute one Monday morning at Round-Up. Symptoms consisted of sweats, chills, flushing of face, thickening of speech and complete mental confusion. Oddly enough, these symptoms cleared up by Spring Only to be replaced by anemia and blood dys- crasias — all unrecognizable on smears of periph- eral blood or bone marrow. At this point, patient becomes quite disoriented about symptoms — they change from day to day but always most distressing and most notable is consistent tiredness. The causes, more speculative than real, range from gram-negative to gram-posi- tive to filterable viruses and back again to gram- negatives. Happilv. as in previous years, there were brief periods of respite from complaints, due to the soothing balm of DOCTOR applied to fevered brow (the name tag said so!). As in the past year symptoms were aggravated by poor nutrition, noted to be harmful by public health and certainly not relieved by statistical analysis! Unfortunately for our patients, things were to be- come worse before they got better — though relief was now in view.
