Research Professor of Gynecology, Pioneer Woman Physician and Prominent Alumna whose unselfish life and noble works have inspired us and many before us at Woman ' s Medical College. Dr. Macfarlane graduated from the Woman ' s Medical College in 1898 and did extensive graduate study both in this country and abroad. She has received countless honors in her fifty-nine years of practice, a few of which are: The Lasker Award; Strittmatter Award: Gimbel Award, and Achievement Award of The Alumnae Association of the Woman ' s Medical College. Dr. Macfarlane is well known, not only to the members of the medical profession, but also to many lay people the world over for her pioneering work in early cancer detection. Among the positions held by Dr. Macfarlane over the years are: President of the American Medical Women ' s Association; Vice-President of the Medical Women ' s International Association : first woman member of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia; one of the founders of the American Academy of Obstetrics-Gynecology : President of the Obstetrical Society of Philadelphia: and.
