1 FROM THEWAESCULAPIAN: l A Thump Snout Ol On The Orthodoxy Or: An Apology For Luther Hippocleides Doesn'fCu1e. Herodofus It was not by mere chance that Luther Rice Mills, IV, was se- lected to edit the CADAVER during the 1964-65 MedicalCol- lege season. lt was by the de- sign of a certain vested in- terest group. not an editor people'I but a 'of the vested He represents 'yet insidious, Mills, then, is of the so-called handpicked tool interest group. a rather silent, minority, which has managed to ' infiltrate the top positions in the various student publications .. Many students have said, Sure somebody had a headache -- but why take it out on us Others, more enraged, have attacked our beloved editor bodily -- forcing him to lay about himself with his umbrella, to protect his person. But, the vested interest group was dead keen on having Luther, and, as this brief profile unfolds, the ulti- mate validity of their choice will become more apparent. Luther Mills is a bit ofa guttersnipe, with a propensity towards shiftlessness. At an early age he fell in with evil companions and eventually be- came a black-hearted reaction- ary. I shouldn't like to delve into his personal tastes, but by and large, he prefers good big hefty wenches, draught beer, strong tobacco, and an occasional whiskey. Mills' own favorite maxim is: No people do so much harm as those who go about doing good. CCreightonl And, true to this maxim, he never goes about do- ing good: as a matter of fact, he usually does rather badly. People have often said, The CADAVER is soulless, Gian- dul, McKinney, Mills, Penning- ton, Speir, et. all I say to you, Mills has a soul --however, small and black. l-le will cru- sade, in the traditional quixotic manner, for the rights of the student. Mills will bring the soul back to the CADAVER. The time is hardly ripe to dis- cuss the almost legendary ex- ploits of Luther Mills during the past few years -- his fabled drinking bouts, his secret society, his squalid flat, his anglomania, etc. -- we all know the stature of the man. As Dr. Genzi once remarked, Mr. Mills embodies those particular qualities so uniquely necessary in the editor of the CADAVER.. he is a flamboyant eccentric. . . he is aggressively meek . . . he is belligerently humble. . .he is a swell fellow. When you see our beloved edi- tor pattering about the campus, his small, emaciated, con- sumptive body, thick spectacles, and incoherent harangues may disappoint you. l-lowever, as for me, I rather like bad wine . . . one gets so bored with good wine.
