Not An Idle Hibernianism With the election of the senior class officers early last month, the brutalelection campaigns of '64-65 came to an end. Tempers were at a razor's edge as the torts and retorts flew during the various class elections. Student demonstrations reached a high point, when supporters of Willard T. jock Strap for president of the sophomore class attacked, stripped, and whipped through the halls, D r. Rufus Payne, longtime friend of the liberal opposition. This, of course, is in jest2 the truth of the matter being that extreme apathy prevails both in nomination and election of these officers, this apathy is traceable to the undoubtahle lack of need for such officers . Each year a few obviously glory-seeking individuals Ca noteable exception beingDon L. Pennington, esq.J are nominat- ed and elected only to place the respective titles by their names , and doing in fact little else. The effort, money for ballot printing, etc., and the disgust- ing office mongering would all be eliminated by a liquidation of these offices. For necessary functions such as class ring purchasing, freshman brawl organization , or stunt night planning, o suitable person or group could be selected by a hand count ballot in class. ln the present situation the apathy is, Ifeel, laudable and reflects a quiet rejection ofthese sopho- more vestiges . NOTE: Apathy is so intense andwidespread that forsooth we were unable to find out who the senior class officers are.
