If r n , Q, T hitnfn Hugs - w ortunately, the circulation of the Aesculapian is modestly confined to quite limited academic cir- qx -14 cles. It develops no theme, conveys no message, . I nw F ll 9:15 E nor presents an especially Hattering portrayal of ,, medical students. It is rather, an amorphous -Q-X S150 - - - - 'r ' mass which attempts to depict life at the Medl- cal College without melodrama or excessive sentimentality, and to capture not only the moments of enlightenment, gravity, and inspiration, but also those of frivolity, criticism and disgust. It is with lachrymose regret that we report that the life of the medical student in no way resembles the maudlin, romanti- cized characterizations often seen on the telly. In our four years, we have worked hard and played hard. At times the educational process has been both physically and mentally exhausting: how- ever, we have persevered, and have developed the capacity to laugh with others as they laugh at us. Hopefully, we have also begun to develop the somewhat nebulous qualities of the good physician. However trite it may sound, we are grateful to our teachers and our families for their forbearance and understanding. We of the Aesculapian staff hope that this 1965 edition, the largest and, we feel, the best to date, will be, in the years to come, a suitable reminder of Medical College life. 2-Xrknnmlrhgmvntz The staff of the 1965 Aesculapian would like to thank Dr. Walter Shepeard for locating the woodcuts used throughout this volume: Mr. Thomas Dwyer for handling our financial affairs: Miss Mary Hallinan, Mr. George Greene, Dr. David Mccorkle, and Dr. Walter Rice for their many helpful suggestions: and Dr. Harry B. O'Rear for his contributions. The editor is indebted to Tom Kandul who, in addition to his regular duties, tool: the faculty photographs and a number of the candid pictures. Peter Sommers, a late addition to our staff, was of invaluable twin RW-ff al' r I mf 'HZ :'nmsu.-f- , v . I. 'hi ,l lpyg aid to our Business Manager. Davilene Carter, Carl Crawford, and Gary Kaufmann also assisted in selling ads. Faye Bussey did the excellent charcoal drawing of Dr. Findley on the dedication page. Mrs. Helen Morgan, the publisheris representative, was most helpful, understanding and patient. Finally, I would like to thank my wife, Mary, who did the major portion of the typing and proof reading, in addition to drawing layouts and lending moral support. William A. Speir, J.. .
