Gen, Metals I Bob Wilson carefully checks a circuit during electronics laboratory. Technical Arts education helps students develop an interest in technical work and skill in the use of the materials and tools. The courses offered are: Electronics, taught by Mr, Keith Bayne, department chairman, Metal Lab, taught by Mr. Bayne and Mr. Don Keenang Wood Lab, taught by Mr, Lloyd Wells and Mr. Steven Headyg Graphic Arts, taught by Mr. Keenan, Drafting, taught by Mr. Headyg and In- ternal Combustion Power Lab, formerly taught by Mr, Vern Peterson. In electronics, students learn the basic fundamentals of electricity and learn about such things as electrical circuitry and construction of electronic projects. Metal lab consists of a series of projects involving such things as sheet metal, foundry, and the use of tools and ma- chines. Wood lab is concerned with basic wood- working technology and the use, care, and safety of hand tools, and some common ma- chines. Students enrolled in graphic arts study the mechanics of printing, composition, and publishing. Courses in drafting cover such things as line techniques, and use of drafting equipment, and are designed to present basic drafting techniques. Internal combustion power lab courses help students explore the basic principles, function, operation, and care of small internal combustion engines. The course was temporarily discontinued at Mid High be- cause the instructor, Mr. Vern Peterson, was drafted. 29

Home Economics Cooking and sewing are the main courses of the home economics department, This department offers five coursesg food I, clothing I, foods II, clothing II and general homemaking 1f2. Students taking foods I did units in quick breads, milk cookery, egg cookery, casseroles, salads, fruit and vegetable cookery, freezing foods and cookies. They also had to serve a guest meal. Miss Patricia Landers, Mrs. Lenore Smith and Mrs. Carolyn Johnson taught these classes. Clothing I classes made go-go tote bags, a gather- ed skirt, and a blouse. Mrs. Thelma Lord and Mrs. Lenore Smith taught these classes. Miss Landers taught foods II this year and her classes did units on quick breads, pastry, meats and poultry, and canning. The prerequisite for this course is foods I. The classes that took clothing II made a shirtwaist dress, a sleeveless dress or jumper and a project of their choice. Mrs, Lord taught these classes. The prerequisite for this course is clothing I. Students who took practical homemaking 1X2 had both cooking and sewing. In cooking, they did units in freezing foods, quick breads, milk and egg cookery, casseroles, vegetables, cooked fruits, salads and made guest meals. The classes' also made a gathered skirt, a go-go tote bag, and a blouse. This class was taught by Mrs. Johnson. This year the home economics classes put on a style show for the mothers with a tea afterwards. The theme of the style show was Cotton Is. The style show was held in the lecture center on May 8.
