rincipals The principal of a school is in a position of vast importance to the everyday life of a school, and Mid High's principal is no exception, Mr. Alex McDonald, in his second year here at Mid High, is the focal point, and co-ordinator of all school activities at Mid High. Mr. McDonald is a native Oregonian and attended high school at Forest Grove and also received his Bachelor of Science de- gree in Forest Grove, while attending Pacific College, He went on to the University of Oregon to earn his Master of Science. Mr. McDonald started teaching at Medford High School in 1940. In 1944, he joined the Armed Forces and was released in 1946, and again started teaching at MSH. In 1955 he became Dean of Boys and there he stayed, until he became the Marauder Principal. He stated that he is very proud of the student body and this sophomore class. He thinks that Mid High was lucky to have such an outstanding class to start the Mid High off on the right foot over the past two years. mMmh.,m,m MR, ALEX MCDONALD, Principal Assistant Principal Marvin Kautz's present job consists of scheduling teacher class loads, taking care of disciplinary actions fabout 300 or 400 a yearj, and supervising an office staff of employees. Mr. Kautz has been a resident of Medford for 12 years and expects to remain one for many years to come, He likes Medford and enjoys living here and especially enjoys his work with young people. Mr. Kautz, a former native of New Leipzig, North Dakota, has been a teacher for 15 years. He was born MR, MARVIN KAUTZ, Assistant Principal in New Leipzig on October 30, 1930. His Bachelor of Science degree was earned at the Dickinson State Teachers College, and in 1956 he earned his Masters Degree at Colorado State. He came to Medford in 1957 as a chemistry and math teacher.

Mrs Alice Kovenz Dean of Girls Deans I like this age of kids in spite of the fact that they frustrate me, says Mr. Jerry McDougall dean of boys. Mr. McDougall majored in speech in college. He gained experience in acting at the Oregon Shakespearean Festival and at a radio station. Mr. McDougall's jobs include: Heading the guidance departmentg being responsible for the Welfare of the boysg taking care of public re- lations with both parents and various agencies' performing counseling activities particularly in the form of attendance, conduct and productiong as- sisting in curriculum development and schedulingg and performing administrative responsibilities Mr. McDougall thinks that the hardest part of his job is When he Works With a student for a long period of time and then the student lets him down Mr McDougall was the advisor of the Medford Student Union, a boys' service club that was newly formed this last year, ,MW f f Mrs Alice Kovenz Dean of Girls feels that the Medford Mid High School girls ' are gi eat Mis Kovenz graduated fi om Linfield College and did graduate Work at the Southern O1GgOI1 College and the University of Oregon She worked with the general education social adjustment attendance and the general Welfare of the girls and Worked to have the parents and teach ers help the students in these areas She also helped with Job placements and iecommendations for Jobs and was thc advisor of the Girls' Service Club According to Mrs Kovenz one of the hardest parts of her Job was finding a girl with an intense dislike for school and not being able to help her ovei come it Due to illness Mis Kovenz was out of school for a While and at the end of the year was still only Working half days Any student who wanted to see the deans through out the year could get an appointment Mr, Jerry McDougall Dean of Boys
