Eefglcallon MISS LUCILLE NILAND We, the annual staff of 1953, dedicate this Raider year book to our world history teacher and publicity advisor, Miss Niland. She has worked constantly to give us courage and advice as well as knowledge of how to cope with the numerous problems that we will have to face in later life. She has unselfishly devoted much of her own time toward the development of our character, and has helped us to realize our responsibilities as students in high school. The spirit and enthusiasm she has for her work gives inspiration to those she teaches. Her ability to get along with her students creates a friendly atmosphere in her classroom. ln years to come we will look back and remember her association with us in 'the best years of our lives.

Werner Pflughoeft, the present president, has served twenty-five years and three terms as the Board's President. William Schmidt has served twenty-one years as secretary to the Board and four years previous to that as a member. Emil Weix has contributed seventeen years and Del Wicker seventeen years. Dr. Martin, Ed. Ruesch, Gordon Kuse, and Harold Jentzsch are the junior mem- bers of the Board of Education. Members of the Board of Education are elected by the voters in the City of Med- ford and serve a term of three years. All the members serve their community without pay. There are few Boards of Education anywhere that can boast of members who have a greater over-all service record than the Board of Education of the City of Medford.
