' Football With the intense heat of late August came sixty-three enthusiastic candidates for the 1950 version of Red Raider football. Although the season didnit prove to be our best, by the end of it Coach Derouinis charges had made an im- pressive showing against some of the strongest competition this league has shown. The opening game was with Thorpis gridmen, who were easily subdued 18-6 under the Med- ford Hoodlights. Merrill, the second non-con- ference opponent, passed for a lone touchdown that won the game. Mosinee repeated the 6-0 defeat in a similar game where the Raiders out-played their rivals but the vigor and steam were poured on in the middle of the field as the score shows. Dadis Night saw Tomahawk smothered under four touchdowns before Medfordis proud pa- pasf' Phillips went scoreless in the next encoun- ter while our M.H.S. gridders loped up and down the Held to a 34-0 victory march. N ekoosa came here for the final game tied for third posi- tion in the conference with Medford to play a Raider squad anxious to avenge last year's only defeat by a sufficient 21-0 score. The second conference loss occurred at Park Falls, where a stocky fullback insisted on throwing his weight around. Despite a 3-2 record this year, the gridiron sea- son proved a success since the Raiders used two junior backfield men who, with their addi- tional experience, will help next yearis chances for a championship. l if yi! . -W-A N-V V Q' 'N A . Basketball This year has been a thrilling one for basket- ball fans. The Raiders had a perfect conference record until suffering exposure to Rib Lakeis rangy Bedmen. Medford held second position in'the conference all season and went to the playoffs to meet Greenwood. Previously Med- ford had derailed them in two non-conference games. At Unity they managed Creenwood's third and worst defeat at our hands. This 67-37 victory hints that the Raiders could have un- seated the southern division's champs, Spencer. Because the season was incomplete the prob- able letter winners, new captain, and tourna- ment winners were not known at the time of publication. A X X UWA ll H B TEAM' Bottom row: D. Fischer, D.
