Mrs. Johnnie Von Scoy Honored by Crater Staff Desk work constituted much of Mrs. Van Scoy's social studies career of 36 years at Medford High School. Mrs. Johnnie Van Scoy retired this year after fulfilling a teach- ing career of 36 years at Medford Senior High School. She began teaching in 1928 in the field of civics and history. ln 1934, Mrs. Van Scoy became the advisor for the History Economics and Civic Association and maintained this position for the rest of her teaching career here at Medford. Later she broadened her subject areas to meet the needs of the expanding student body and she began teaching Economics and Sociology. Because of the fact that Mrs. Van Scoy dedicated over 36 years to Medford High, many present day students were acquainted with her through their parents, experiences of previous years. During each of her teaching years, she has offered a pleasing classroom at- mosphere and special closeness to her students. She often seemed more like a friend than a teacher. Mrs. Van Scoy will long be remembered and honored at Med- ford High as one of the most dedicated teachers ever employed. She will always hold a place in the hearts of each of her students because of her sweet and understanding manner and good will. This year, Mrs. Elsie Butler retired after a 25-year teaching career at Med- ford High School. Beginning her term at Medford in 1911-O, she taught mathe- matics and took the responsibility of Mathematics Department Head. She maintained this position for the entire 25 year periodf Among the math sub- jects taught by Mrs. Butler during her career were basic algebra, geometry, algebra HI, trigonometry, and college algebra. In 1945, Mrs. Butler became the Boys, League Advisor and in follow- ing years was either senior, junior, or sophomore girls, counselor. Other ad- visory positions during the years in- cluded Tri-Hi Y advisor and scholar- ship chairman. She was scholarship chairman until 1961. Mrs. Butler has achieved a key posi- tion of admiration at Medford High and will long be remembered and ap- preciated for her kindness and teaching abilities. l' ii

Mr. Marvin Kautz Acting Dean of Boys Mrs. Grace Berg, Dean of Girls Mrs. Naomi Van Dyke Mr. DeVere TaY10f Deons ond Counselors, Guule Students for the Future Medford High was fortunate to have a conscientious and interested group of counselors to guide it through the 1964 65 school year. The helpful counselors gave much assistance in scheduling and in helping to solve individuals' personal problems as well as school problems. Among the many duties of the deans such as attendance and being advisors for the Girls' and Boys' league, Mrs. Grace Berg and Mr. Marvin Kautz helped students on the journey of their last stepping stone of their high school career.
