Policy For School Well known To all sTudenTs of Medford Senior High is The Vice Principal, Miss Josephine Kirfley. Dividing her Time equally befween her many duTies, Miss Kirfley sfrives To mainfain a sysfemafic managemenf of The school curriculum. Included among her duTies are: aufhor- ship of The Regisfrafion Handbook and The Parenf Handbook, regulafion of re- cords and Transcripfs, managemenT of l.B.M. June finds The end of school and graduaTion. Upon applying for admis- sion To a college, a copy of The sTudenT's record is senf To The school. These records and TranscripTs are kepT up To daTe by Miss Kirfley. Connecfed closely wiTh regisTraTion of sTudenTs and Their scheduling is The operaTion of The I.B.M. sysTem. Schedules, reporT cards, and Transfers, pass Through Miss KirTley's office on Their way To The l.B.M. machines. Anofher phase of her duTies is dis- cipline. Miss Kirfley makes The necessary decisions involving discipline of girls. A new exTra-curricular acrivify This year is The guardianship of The foreign exchange sTudenTs when They speak before The public. Miss KirTley accom- panies Them on These Trips. Miss Kirfley has given much of her valuable Time and energy To The beTTer- menT of Medford Senior High sTudenTs. WriTing ouT Transcripfs is buT one of The many Tasks ThaT Miss KirTley performs daily. STudenTs who geT To know her are charmed by her good humor and warm personaliTy.

Administration Formulates A guiding force in The lives of many sTudenTs of MHS, Mr. Lesfer Harris skill- fully fulfills his office of Principal. By carefully combining such duTies as Teacher evaluaTions and raTings, super- vision of classroom Teaching, and regu- laTing The school acTiviTy program, Mr. Harris provides for The over-all edu- cafional program of The building. Through direcT conTacT wiTh The super- inTendenT, Mr. Harris forms and direcrs policies relaTing To The building, The school finances, and public relaTions. An enThusiasTic sporrsman in his own righT, Mr. Harris makes game arrange- menTs, has charge of The reserve seaT sales, and supervises The aThleTic di- recTor. I-le also has charge of The school dances and confrols The car Traffic. Some of his oTher responsibiliTies in- clude Teacher, parenT, and sTudenT dis- cipline and The supervision of custodians and classroom equipmenT. Mr. Harris also has charge of cafeferia duTy, boys' make-up Time, and acTs as class con- sulTanT. Among his exTra-curricular acTiviTies Pleasanrly fulfilling his duTies, Mr. Harris is admired by bofh sTudenTs and Teachers. His eighTeen years as our Principal have given him experience and insighf in handling The many problems ThaT arise. Mr. Harris also enjoys parriciparing in winTer sporTs such as ice skaTing and skiing. Fond of ouT-door sporTs, Mr. Harris is an avid hunTer and fisherman.

The issuing of aTTendance slips, counseling, and discipline of of The boys aT M.H.S. are several of his duTies. He is also advisor of Boys' League and supervises The acTiviTies of This organizafion. Mr. Alex McDonald adds an imporTanT Touch To The excellenT adminisfrafion of Medford Senior High School. As Direcfor of Guidance, Mr. McDonald works wifh The counseling cenfer To help develop beTTer guidance services. Plans for The 1961 -i962 school year call for increased acTiviTy in such areas as sfaff Training, The occupaTional and educafional infor- mafion program, The uTilizaTion of coun- selor Time, and communiTy educafion. As direcTor of The Guidance Commif- Tee, Alex McDonald direcfs The acTiviTies of The counselors in such fields as The individual analysis, The selecfion of Training, and placemenf. The various phases of The individual analysis are now neaTly combined in The Oregon Elemenfary School Cumulafive Folder. Aid is also given To sTudenTs in selecfing proper Training programs for posT-high school educafion. Wifh The help of The Cumulafive Folder, The counselors are able To choose The Training program which will besT serve The sTudenTs in- TeresTs, abiliTies, financial resources, and scholasfic background. The culminaTion of The educaTional program is The place- menT of a sTudenT in a job which will serve The individual and socieTy in a saTisfacTory manner. Even wiTh all of his duTies, Mr. McDonald's inTeresT in sporTs is noT hindered. He aTTends all The games he possibly can and helps by Taking Tickefs aT The door. He also enjoys camping and boafing.
