Locally Mr. Beclcen bas been a member ot tbe United Medtord Crusade board since its original inception: he is active in tlwe Lions Club and a member ot ttie board ot tlne Jaclcson County Public Library. Mr. Becken is working tor lwis doctoral de- gree in education. Soyief school buildings are of a sfandard paffern, fhree, four, and five sfories, wifh small rooms, and are nof affracfive ar- chifecfurally. l-lowever, rooms and corridors are brighfened by flowers, aquariums, beaufiful painfings, and cages of birds or squirrels. Double sfudy-shiffs are sfandard and all schools operafe on a six-day basis, alfhough on Safurday sfudenfs are excused abouf fwo o'cloclc. Sovief sfudenfs have no home worlc for weekends by official decree of fhe lvlinisfry of Educafion. Classes are or- ganized on a formal lecfure guesfion-and- answer mefhod. The fwo main goals in educafing Sovief children are fo malce fhem physically sfrong and healfhy, and fo bring fhem up in fhe frue spirif of communism.
