Student Council Student council carried through so many projects this year that even Mr. Harris, their adviser. was amazed. The most pressing need in Medford High School was a fall and winter program ol noon activities to occupy students who brought lunches or ate in the cafeteria. The council responded first by sponsoring a series ol noon movies. both educational films and regular grade A entertainment pictures. Such dramas as Swiss Family Robinson were presented in two or three installments. Other council-sponsored noon activities were the three-man baslcetball tournaments, the boxing matches, and the square dancing in the boys' gymnasium. Students found the basketball tournament exciting. Sometimes the games were more amusing than serious, but all were fun. A team of mighty seniors, The Tramps. won the tournament in which a sophomore trio, The Three Stooges, were runners up. The thrilling boxing matches filled the gymnasium daily and rivaled even the popular motion picture shows. When Mr. Ragsdale organized square dancing at noon and acted as caller, everyone had a good time, and the vig- orous dancing used much pent-up energy. Another accomplishment ol the year was the talent show. organized by .lean Kyle, Junior Red Cross chairman, and baclced by the council. Selections from a try-out ol student-prepared slcits formed a basis for show units that performed before the veterans at Camp Vvhite and Roseburg. To meet the problems ol lonely new students - transfers and promotions - the council has planned a welcoming committee to greet and orient the newcomer in Medford High School. 10
