The most pressing need in Medford High School was a fall and winter program ol noon activities to occupy students who brought lunches or ate in the cafeteria. The council responded first by sponsoring a series ol noon movies. both educational films and regular grade A entertainment pictures. Such dramas as Swiss Family Robinson were presented in two or three installments. Other council-sponsored noon activities were the three-man baslcetball tournaments, the boxing matches, and the square dancing in the boys' gymnasium. Students found the basketball tournament exciting. Sometimes the games were more amusing than serious, but all were fun. A team of mighty seniors, The Tramps. won the tournament in which a sophomore trio, The Three Stooges, were runners up. The thrilling boxing matches filled the gymnasium daily and rivaled even the popular motion picture shows. When Mr. Ragsdale organized square dancing at noon and acted as caller, everyone had a good time, and the vig- orous dancing used much pent-up energy. Another accomplishment ol the year was the talent show. organized by .lean Kyle, Junior Red Cross chairman, and baclced by the council. Selections from a try-out ol student-prepared slcits formed a basis for show units that performed before the veterans at Camp Vvhite and Roseburg. To meet the problems ol lonely new students - transfers and promotions - the council has planned a welcoming committee to greet and orient the newcomer in Medford High School. 10 'f ,.- Wi. f . Passing over old husiness lightly to get to the newer projects, the up- perclassmen soon determined a date for initiating the roolcs from Junior High. Carter informed the sophomores of the rules concerning the initiation: the roolcs were to suspend onions from strings around their neclcsg they were to wear levis lcnee high: and each was to carry a shoe-shine outfit to polish the shoes ol' any senior upon request. At the same meeting the seniors intro- duced a motion Concerning junior initiation. hut the juniors overpowered the motion immediately. As the meeting came to a close, Carter introduced the senior cops, all memhers of the Order of lvl, to the sophomores and gave them special warning as to their hehavior. This meeting was hut one example of the inter-worlcings ol the Boys' League and the amusing and lighthearted manner in which they go ahout their husiness.
