, 5, Q ELSIE BERNHEISEL JERRY LAUSMAN CHARLES WAGNER Treasurer Technician C0.T.ger Rafah The legislative body of Medford Senior High Schools government is the Student Council. ln the school year 1947-1948 the council worked to form a judicial body called the Student Court, and for a system of punishment which worked by demerits. The executive officer this year was Joe Chez, president of the Associated Student Body. He was assisted by A. S. B. officers: Monte Kounz, vice-president, Eleanor McCabe, secretary, Elsie.Bernheisel, treasurer, and John Skyrman, business manager. The remainder of the council was composed of the officers of the most important school organizations: Hi-Times editor, Doris Bostwick, Crater editor, Charity Williams, Boys' League president, Bob Gaines, Girls' League president, Marilyn Winetrout, senior class president, Bob Shongle, junior class president, Bill Walker, senior class representative, Bill Mumbach, junior class representative, Kenneth Boshears, sophomore class representative, Susan Drummond, Yell Queen, Mary Sue Greene, Yell King, Gordon Price, student technician, Jerry Lausman. Throughout the year the council urged students to participate in the extra-curricular activities offered in school. lt sponsored the first dance of the year and supervised the annual noise parade. A committee headed by Monte Kounz installed in the halls a new public address system which gave music and special announcements to students during the noon hours. This year the Student-Council has left behind a record of achievement that the student body valued during the year and one which following councils will hold as an example. JACKIE SCHMIDT SHIRLEY BURN LEE STRONG MRS MARuoRiE BUTLER Vice P es dent Trecusu er Ad ser P es dent WW QW MARILYN wursumour Gurls League Under the leadership of President Marulyn Wunetrout thus year s Girls League has been one of the most active groups un school Assisting the president were Shurley Woodburn vuce president Lee Strong secretary and Jackie Schmidt treasurer All officers were elected last sprung Mrs Maruorie Butler dean of gurls acted as adviser to the league The Gurls League Council is made up of the offucers the representatives from each class and the G A A president Representatives from the senior class were Joan Coleman and Doris Bostwuck uunuor class Aylene Hopkins and Janus Grugsby sophomore class Barbara Green and Susan Drummond The Girls Athletic Association was represented by the president Rosalie Glascock Thus executive council met twuce a month and made plans for all activities of the league At general meetings held once a month programs were given about careers personality good grooming and clothing Formal and athletic ushers were a part of the Girls League this year These gurls ushered at all football games numer ous cuvuc affairs Southern Oregon College games played in Medford and for the Philharmonic Socuety Last fall the Girls League presented Hello Day The purpose was to acquaunt the sophomores with upperclassmen Everyone had a iolly time securing signatures on the souvenur card Among the outstanding activities during the year were two successful dances given by the league. One was given in October with the theme 'Mermaids' Manor . A semi-formal dance was given soon after the second semester began. At Christmas time the girls sent gifts to the veterans who were patients in the hospital at Roseburg and gave food and clothing to a needy family. Candy was sold every noon by the girls. The most important of all Girls' League activities was their annual Girls' League Week held in May. During this week the league published an issue of Hi-Times advertising all the events to come. The girls gave a style show and tea for their mothers and the faculty women. lt was during this week that members were assigned little sisters from junior high. They showed these girls around the school and explained to them life in senior high. The officers and representatives of the Girls' League are to be congratulated for their outstanding leadership this year, and the members of the league for their fine co-operation.
