The executive officer this year was Joe Chez, president of the Associated Student Body. He was assisted by A. S. B. officers: Monte Kounz, vice-president, Eleanor McCabe, secretary, Elsie.Bernheisel, treasurer, and John Skyrman, business manager. Throughout the year the council urged students to participate in the extra-curricular activities offered in school. lt sponsored the first dance of the year and supervised the annual noise parade. A committee headed by Monte Kounz installed in the halls a new public address system which gave music and special announcements to students during the noon hours. This year the Student-Council has left behind a record of achievement that the student body valued during the year and one which following councils will hold as an example. XX iYNAdvised by Mrs. Cox and Mr. Mentzer, who have guided them, the students have worked together to pro- uce an un sually keen school spirit. The senior fficers are Bob Shangle, Albert Braun, Barbara Bottier, Jackie Rhymes, and Bill Mumbach. ln scholarship the seniors have consistently placed many students on the honor roll and reached the record number of thirty-one in January. The eleven seniors chosen to compete for the Pepsi-Cola scholarships were Albert Braun, Bill Mumbach, Bob Fries, Bob Pearson, Leslie Webber, Mary Sue Greene, Phyllis Stauffer, Shirley Woodburn, Ann Butler, Mary Virginia Wait, and Charity Williams. A number of senior boys played varsity football under the coptaincy of Tom Mottern and Joe Fliegel. These two were chosen for the Southern-Oregon Conference team. Seniors participated in basketball, baseball, and track. The senior class voted to graduate in caps and gowns following the Class of i947 which broke the tradition of formals and white coats. The two hundred and fifteen seniors may be proud of their record in high school and look forward to achieving still more in the future. mu MUMBACH MRS. COX MR. Fl ' PATSY OLDER GLENDA FIELDS IRMA BOSTOCK YVONNE GAULT President Vrcelrexident SEUPVUVY T'9U5U'e' Drama Club The Drama Club was completely reorganized at the beginning of this year. A provisional group of about seventy met and elected officers. The group then dissolved, leaving only the officers who wrote a constitution and admitted new members. The entrance requirements were established. Qualifications included appearance in a school production, or assistance in preparing scenery, collecting wardrobes and properties, or in stage direction. Those who were not regular members were urged to attend meetings, although they could not vote. ln this manner, they could plan some activity that would qualify them for membership. The first production pre- sented by the group was The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden, a one-act play by Thornton Wilder. This story required no scenery and only six characters, with the stage-manager taking all minor parts. The play was an experiment and it proved very successful. Ycll King Gordon Price, assistants, Treve Neff and Rod Whaley, and the three iunior, three senior rally girls, our student body has been inspired with boundless enthusiasm. This group may be given credit for the large attendance of rooters at football and basketball games. Looking dashing in black monogrammed pedal-pushers and white V-neck sweaters, the six girls rival the football team in their exertion, while Mary Sue, well-equipped for her position, fires the bleachers with uproarious school spirit, Before each football or basketball game, the pep team presents a skit to which students eagerly looked forward. These skits are produced with the assistance of Jackie Hall. The pep squad entered a float in the noise parade and officiated with yell-leading at the bonfire preceding the Bend football game. This year the group also organized highly successful serpentines before several football games. Baseball BOB GAINES BOB FASEL This year the Tiger baseball squad is anticipating a good season after a mediocre l947 showing Early last season Red Gaines was lost through lnlury his loss crippled the pitching staff severely. This, and a general lack of experi- ence throughout the club, accounts for the season's record of five wins against eight losses. The squad showed steady improvement throughout the season and went on in Ameri- can Legion ball club last summer to the state playoffs in Albany. Eleven lettermen returned this year arrd will form the nucleus of the varsity baseball squad. Several new prose pects from the Junior High and other schools reported. Nineteen comprise the 1948 diamond aggregation, with fourteen on the varsity and some alternating between the varsity and the junior varsity. So far, eighteen games were scheduled for the varsity and about eight for the junior varsity. Coaching duties were handled this year by Alex Mc- Donald with Bob Hamilton as assistant.
