The year has zipped by with scarcely a person noting the speed with which it has disappeared. We have played, studied, crammed, competed with other schools, and we generally had fun in the process. Yes, this year has been a momentous one-momentous in a national sense, as well as in the life of each Medford High School student. And behind this one year in our lives are all the hopes and dreams of those Americans who established our sound and stable world. We are qoinq to try to keep it sound and stable. HEDRICK Superintendent of Schools lly a large majority. the voters of Medford approved the plans of Superintendent li. H. Hedrick and the School Board for repair, renovations :nd additions to all school huildings of the City. A lmond issue was passed to provide the funds. .-Ns a part of the large school building program authorized for the City. some much needed improvements and additions will he made to the Senior High School. Included in this is a wing containing a cafeteria and kitchen unit with four additional class rooms. The new section will he iminediately east of the auditorium: the cafe and kitchen will he on the ground floor and the class rooms ahove. The cafeteria will meet a long' felt need and will he of great help in relieving the serious conjestion that exists at present in the home making rooms. The cafeteria is lmeing planned to serve also as a study hall during class periods. thus giving the space full time oc- cnpancy. One of the new class rooms will he occupied hy vocal music. thus separating' it from the present interference of instrumental music and placing' it closer to the auditorium. Another major improvement will he the Construction of a new covered ggrandstand with a seating capacity of l,500, to he located on the east side of the footlmall field. This is being planned They plan MRS. REBECCA JENSEN Clerk of the School District l:orUs... primarily for the students and the hand and secondarily for the accommo- dation of the general puhlic that heretofore has overflowed the old grand- stand during' the footlmall seasons. ln addition the administration plans to renovate the entire inside of the huilding. There will he painting, replastering, and other minor repairs. ln each classroom that at the present time has low lighting, new lights will he added. There are to he electric outlets in every room for the purpose of visual aids in education. All rooms may have venetian hlinds. The hoard fence around the foothall field will he removed and replaced hy a chain-link wire fence on metal posts. VVith these many improvements we hold a hright outlook toward the future of Medford High School. although with scarcity of lahor and materials the Board of lfducation can make no statement concerning' the definite date of construction. 'I'he success of this issue was largely due to the careful planning and con- sideration of the School Board and Mr. Hedrick. Those on the Board of liducation are john l'. These are just a few of the things that the seniors will miss and remember. Ianet's and Chuck's puns in pep assemblies .... breaking our necks learning to ski .... that marvelous senior feeling .... the polished saddles the girls were wearing .... the rush to Huson's at noons .... remedial classes in room 34 and the welcome back to study hall .... trying to keep up on the latest steadies . . . . the unfortunates madly feather-dusting for make-up time. . . . Ward Bebb's loud sweaters .... the cute signs that always popped up for all the swell dances . . . . the sophomore assembly and the barbershop quartet. . . . the crowded rides in those brokendown jalopies to Henry's after a game .... the fun of the Noise Parade .... struggling with our locker combinations .... Caroling through the halls at Christmas time .... the crowds of boys around the radiator in the main hall at noon .... shivering through the assemblies in the auditorium .... Ioan Hoppe's bright smile .... knocking ourselves out yelling for the football and basketball games .... those last minute, futile, desparate attempts to get a ride to an out-of-town game .... Bill Bowerman's jokes in study hall .... everybody thoroughly enjoying a long assembly .... the rush to get the latest HI-TIMES .... the get-togethers on the lawn and those camera fiends .... seeing so many of the boys leaving for the armed forces .... Bill Todd's wonderful rendition of the Dark Town Poker Club .... the Pep Team's hilarious skits and their commercials .... Senior Skip Day .... the heartbreaking semi-final football and basketball games .... the fun we had in Salem .... hearing those little moron jokes or somebody loudly imitating Senator Claghorn .... everybody catching the measles. . . . those after-school confabs at Huson's .... Nat getting hypnotized .... the Senior Play .... wearing jeans Girls' League Week. . . . the excitement of going to the Iunior-Senior Prom. . . . and trying to keep the theme a secret .... Roger Sterton and his witticisms .... trying to get everybody to sign our Crater .... and finally the proud, sad feeling we got when our diplomas were handed to us. When the final congratulations and sad farewells have been said, we will leave our good old ALMA MATER to make room for another Senior Class to have as much fun and unforgettable memories as We have had. NOVEMBER November 5 the school put on the animal Noise Parade, in which each club and class entered a float. The Ashland game that night was another victory for the Tornado. ' November 22, Thanksgiving Day, was sad in the lives of the students and the supporters of the school. The Grant Generals of Portland invaded Medford, and after a hard-fought battle defeated the Tornado 7 to 6. Thus the chance to be state champions slipped from Medford's grasp.
