SlUllElll COUNCIL One of the outstanding opportunities afforded Medford high students is that of self government This is carried out through the Student Council which is composed of student body officers and representatives of the classes This year its members were president Ray Casebeer vice president, Harry Nordwick, secretary, Paula Blanton, treasurer, Ruth Andrews, business manager, Jim Tucker, Hi-Times editor, Betty Mack, assistant Crater editor, Randall Lovejoy, girls' yell queen, Calista Farrell, Girls' league president, Virginia Ham- mond, Boys' league president, Leigh Eden, senior class presi- dent, Weldon Webber, senior class representative, Robert Shelby, junior class president, Marvin Doty, junior class rep- resentative, Maxine McKinney, sophomore class president, Jim Cave, and sophomore class representative, Betty Baker. The group of students meets every Monday in Room lO, with additional meetings being called when the president deems it necessary. Among the new policies initiated this year was participation in the National Schools at War program This was based on student body purchase of war bonds and stamps lf ninety per cent of the members of the student body purchased at least one war stamp during any given month the school was en titled to fly the Minuteman Flag for the following month t-l.E,C.A. was responsible for carrying out this program. Throughout the year Student Council endeavored to gain a more successful turnout at social functions. ln line with this a dance was sponsored on January 22, the theme of which was a night club. Ruth Andrews was general chairman for the event. Again this year noon dancing was approved by the Council, also the skating club was admitted to the list of Medford high activities. 9
