He spoke on the importance of education in general, and of the quality of Okla- homa's educational facilities, then an- swered questions from students and other member's of the community. MEDFORD TEACHERS started the year of accountability by writing their be- havioral objectives for each of their classes. The school also underwent eval- uation by the North Central evaluation Committee, during which time the cur- riculum and activities of the school were examined and rated by a committee of students and teachers from different school organizations, then by a com- mittee of teachers and personnel from the State Department of Education. THE KOCH OIL COMPANY, by increas- ing capacity and number of employees, also increased the population of Medford. These families, and other newcomers to the community put the enrollment of the school over the 400 mark. To care for the increased number of students, the administration arranged for a school nurse to work at the school one day a week. This award was added to those won at the Tri-State Music Festival for march- ing and Concert bands and the nu- merous other awards which were won during the year. THE PRESTIGIOUS MUSICIANS started off this year with top honors at the State Fair Marching Contest. Later in the year, they had the honor of playing for the state's finest mu- sic teacher's at the OMEA conven- tion. The band is looking forward to the coming contest season, which will end with a trip to Six Flags in Dallas, Texas, where the concert band will perform. The trip will be paid for by a fund comprised of do- nations from Medford's Citizens. IN THE VOCAL CLASSES, the teach- ers have begun teaching theory. Mr. Simmons and Mrs. Tims give a lesson in theory before the groups practice the songs they will take to contest. After several lessons they give a test, by means of which they decide wheth- er to recycle previous teaching, or move on to something a bit more advanced.
