Our music room, which was designed with max- imum efficiency for prac- tice and instructional work, is centrally located in the basement. The large mu- sic room, plus its office and four individual prac- tice rooms and other stor- age space required an ex- cavation of 30 feet by 80 feet dimensions. The mu- sic room and the north- west basement (film west basement Afilm room) serve for another purpose — tornado shelter. As one steps into the li- brary, he sees first, the cir- culation desk. Directly to the left of the entrance, and under the large win- dows which enclose the front of the room, are two shelves of reference books. The card catalogue is lo- cated in front of the four individual study carrels. Since the library must serve also as a part-time study hall, seating capacity for 49 is provided. In the future, seating capacity may be enlarged by replac- ing the old reading tables with new and modern ones. The foremost function of the library remains the same: to house and carry forward the wisdom and beauty of the past while at the same time enrich the present and look for- ward to the future.
