“
We have climbed the peak And now we look below us With tears of joy, yet with sorrow. We must part Only to climb another peak That is even higher! Medfield High School Class of 78 Mr. Francis M. Bibby Miss Judith E. Noble 1 tell you that the children of yesteryears are walking in the funeral of the era that they created for themselves . . . But the children of tomorrow are the ones called by life, and they follow it with steady steps and heads high, they are the dawn of new frontiers, no smoke will veil their eyes and no jingle of chains will drown out their voices. They are few in number, but the difference is as between a grain of wheat and a stack of hay. No one knows them but they know each other . . . K. Gibran With many thanks for leading us along the way, we dedicate the 1978 Peak to Miss Judy Noble and Mr. Francis M. DONOVAN I think that we will continue to elect priggish, ignorant, stub- born people to high office. Their blind enthusiasms . . . will lead us into more noble experiments. (Such as Prohibi- tion and Vietnam) Humanity will again fail to coop- erate — because the experi- ments will be incomprehensi- ble to most human beings, and painful and wasteful besides. Humanity will come to look like a defective machine to the noble experimenters. They will order our policemen and sol- diers to bang on it hard, to make it run smoothly. The experimenters will again force our police and soldiers to dis- grace themselves in public. Steve Gilmore enjoyed it ' s finest season since 1969 by finishing with an outstanding record of 7-2-1. With thrilling victories over Millis, Dux- bury, D-S, and exciting come from behind tie of Holliston, the Warriors impressed enough people to end up ranked 10th in Div. 4. Seniors Dave Daniels and Scott Wallace Spearheaded the running attack, while senior QB Tim Reardon teamed with receivers Gilmore and Bob Bready to become one of the most feared end and end passing combinations ever. Steve Angelis, Brian LeCleare, Lawson Rankin, Donald Nyren, and John lafolla led the defense, which held opponents at bay all year. Chuck Phelan, Jim Cummins, Peter Sullivan, John Norton, and Clay Carlisle performed well all season. Gilmore, Daniels and Nyren were named to the TVL All Star Team, and Bready was elected to the All Defensive Team by the Milford Daily News. The 77 ' season was no exception, as the Warriors compiled an 11-1-2 record, becoming the sole champions of the TVL. The team controlled the league, and highlights included another year ' s domi- nance over Dover-Sherbom and a victory over 1976 Div. 2 champ Wayland. The War- riors were quarter-finalists in the tournament, beating Somersett, before losing to Dux- bury. Medfield faces were dominant on the TVL All Star Squad as well, with Snow, Aronson, Jones, Himebaugh, Scarsiotti, and Preston on the team. Aronson and Scar- siotti were Div. 2 E. Mass. All Stars as well. JUNIOR VARSITY; Front: M. Gallagher, First Row: D. Bartholemew, G. Papadoyliannis, C. Patrick, M. McMahon, L. Nelson, P. Hamilton, Second Row: Coach LeClere, G. Gallagher, P. SENIORS Coach Belmont and Co-captains Astle and Shields lead ' the Cross Country Team to a much improved season, as they upped their record to 4-5 from 2-7 the previous year. The team whipped Medway twice, and also topped Nipmuc and Norfolk. Good performances were turned in by Se- niors Keith Brangwyne, Ken Larsen, Dan Shields, and Tom An- nastasia. Juniors Paul Menard, and Ken Kilcoyne. An excellent ef- fort was also put in by Sophomore Elmo Brangwyne. Front Row: K. Brangwyne, K. Larsen, Co-Capt. Astle, Co-Capt. R. Shields, D. Shields, T. BOY ' S CROSS COUNTRY 1977 WINTER TRACK Front Row, L to R, Paul Menard, John Norton, Steve Astle, Coach Bridges, Back Row, L to R, Richard Schnizer, Walter Hoover, Ron Shields. The Medfield High Winter Track Team, led by seniors John Norton, and Greg Zappas made significant progress in upping their record from the previous year. Though the team was small it had quality junior runners like Ron Sheils, Steve Astle, and Rich Schnizer who recorded career bests in their events. Paul Menard and Walt Hoover also did great jobs all year long. Under first year coach John Bridges, the team was 1-5-1, but the competed in every meet. BIG BLUE HOOPS Back row, 1 to r, Manager Chuck Fattore, Doug Fetterol, Mike Bodozian, Eric Aronson, Tim Rearson, Chet Burks, Mark Belil, Hugh Hennessey, Steve Howell, Manager Glen Balcom, Front row. Coach Gibbs, Tim Puuri, Dave Carroll, Bob Bready, Chris DiLorenzo, Dan Dimeza, Coach Hodne. The Big Blue ended the 77-78 regular season with a record of 16-5 and qualified for a berth in the state tournament for the 10th year in a row. Led by captain Bob Bready, TVL All Stars Chet Burks and Eric Aronson and seniors Hugh Hennessy, Tim Reardon, and Mark Belil, the Blue Machine posted a 14-2 league record — good for 2nd place in the tough Tri-Valley League. Out matched is size and strength by many opponents the Big Blue used tough defenses and a relentless fast break to run themselves into the quarter finals of the State Tournament before bowing out to Seekonk. Fine supporting efforts were turned in by Mike Bodozian, Doug Fetteroll and Dave Carroll all year long. MHS ICE HOCKEY Back Row, 1 to r, , D. Flavin, S. Warren, R. Floser, M. Preston, J. Morgan, A. Flavin, T. Mazukina, R. Ferguson, D. Armstrong, Missing, F. Snow. The MHS hockey team suffered through a disappointing sophomore season with an overall record of 5-12. Their record in the TVL was 3-11, finishing in fourth place. In- juries and illnesses hurt the team as Ron Floser, Marv Pre- ston, and Fred Snow all missed games. The senior line of Snow, Flavin, and Mazukina provided much of team ' s scor- ing punch. Through the second part of the season. Coach Morgan concentrated on rebuilding for next year. Highlight of the year were, the team ' s fantastic start with a three game winning streak. Snow ' s hat trick against King Philip, Mazukina ' s 2 goal games against Dover, Millis and Keefe, very impressive first year goalie work by Kurt Scarsciotti, and two big wins over arch-rival Dover- Sherborn. 9 The Girls Soccer squad, in their second season of play, went to the tournament and lost to the eventual winners, Needham, 8-1. Their regular season schedule found them victorious to every team except Foxboro with scores of 3-2 and 1-0. With a team made up of mostly underclassmen, the squad looks forward to an even better season next year. Both squads did a superb job cheering our football teams to their winning seasons. Much additional school spirit was fostered by these ladies, and Homecoming was once again its usual high point of the season with the cheerleaders ad- ding their skit at the pep rally. Congratulations to the varsity basketball squad for their third place show- ing at the annual cheer- leading competition. Se- nior Sheila Ferriera held down the job of captain during the season, and the young squad took shape under her guidance. The junior varsity basketball squad was lead by Ellen Mazukina.
