This was a rebuilding year for the squad, and Coach Ruggiero did a fine job. The final record for the Warriors was 9 wins and 11 losses, finishing in a tie for 4th place in the Tri-Valley League. This was sparked by a brilliant 61-55 upset over first place Hopedale. With 12 varsity men returning next year, Medfield ' s basketball future looks bright. 87 Cross Country 89 90 Track — 68 The story of Medfield High 1968 Spring Track was a story about individuals. What the team lacked in depth it made up for with the brilliant performances of many individuals. Two runners. Captain Wayne Clive, and 1969 Captain, Richard Lovelace, went undefeated in regular season competition and then went on to place their names in Medfield ' s athletic tradition by setting unprecedented back-to-back records in the 1968 State Meet. There were others. Sophomore sprinter, Gary Vollmuth, carried his school colors into the 220 yard dash finals of the State Meet and the sprint relay team, undefeated in league competition, sent many fans home cheering after capturing the final event at every meet. Jim White, a junior sprinter, took up pole vaulting and quickly broke all of MHS ' vaulting records and together with junior Ernie Simpson estab- lished Medfield as a major power in the vaulting event. 68 was also the year of the one-two punch. In the weight events we had the Norelli brothers, Mike and Bill; Wayne Clive and Jeff Lee in the 440; Richard Lovelace and Jim Coon in the 880; White and Sullivan in the high jump; The Hurd boys in the two mile. There were many more, for 1968 saw the greatest track turnout in the school ' s history. Medfield Track became a big boy in 1968 and he ' s still growing. After a slow start the Warriors won their last 6 games to end up with a record of 8 wins and 8 losses. The 69” squad will have only 4 seniors returning: Fred Caraviello, Brian Kel- leher, Matty Marks, and Kent Ells- worth.
