His hope is to at¬ tend an American University and eventually to secure a law degree. He has been afforded this educa¬ tional opportunity by the Unitarian Church. Abudi Speaks to the Seniors After a long struggle for the most precious thing in life, education, we are now called upon to end our journey in Medfield High School—yet our achievements are but half through. The liberal ideal, freedom of mind and spirit, from all-inhibiting emotions, is particularly valuable in our contemporary world. An open mind is mandatory in realizing the true goals of civilization. If it could be easily achieved it would be very little prized and in the long run would be lost. Our real purpose is to respect, to honor, and to recog¬ nize every human being. The spirit of Med¬ field, freedom of mind and brotherhood of man, can never be obliterated, it can only grow and spread its growth throughout the world. For president was Bobby Bois; Hank Lufler was the V.P. choice; Janie Bryce recorded notes While Patsy Buckley received treasurer ' s votes. Nancy Williams and Mike Donahue Were the Athletic Council two. Carol Bois, along with Chan, Hopped the Student Council van. In some way we managed to survive The initiation the Juniors contrived. From our class we chose two girls With pretty eyes and lots of curls To form an attractive coalition In Miss Medfield competition. At the end of the year we said good-bye To Nancy McKenny and Joy Guy. And so it was we left for good The unhappy state of Freshmanhood. But as I ' m sure you all remember We were back again the next September. Our Sophomore class was divided in half By two lucky members of the teaching staff. Mrs. Pederzini was given a portion While Miss Smith received the remaining good fortune Our officers in order precise Were McMahon, Carreiro, Sutcliffe, and Bryce. We started the year with a record hop. We did everything from waltz to bop. Ruth Decker and Hank moved to new stations Causing two of the year ' s migrations. Tommy Belmont and H. Tezak Went away and didn ' t come back. In this year we said good-bye And lost Glenny Ours to Newton High. Peggy Frick was the only new member To come before the next September. Our Miss Medfield candidates were mighty nice Cathy lafolla and Janie Bryce. Our class had cheering tryouts licked, Monie, Jane, and Patsy were picked. June brought with it the closing date. Kerrs had a party to celebrate. And so it was we managed to whip The unhappy state of Sophomoreship. Alas! We found we had suffered through Only half of our years and we still needed two. Thus as Juniors we returned that fall To try and complete another haul. One homeroom was for Mr. Dargan; For Mr. Morris was the rest of the bargain. We had a meeting to see how things stood And elected officers in the order we should: First came president, and that was Chan, Then Peggy was elected his right-hand man. Maureen was secretary our Junior year And for Jane the treasury became a career. Now we were in a superior situation And our first endeavor was initiation. Since this was a year of elections We held a hop with patriotic selections. When the Christmas season came around With the party spirit we were bound. We played Sing Along With Mr. Morris While Mr. Kreshpane acted for us. For Mr. Dargan all we can say Is he made us laugh in his usual way. In this season we helped finance The Junior-Senior Christmas Dance. The Miss Medfield Dance was a Junior chore. We made the arrangements and even more We placed before the judges eyes Jane and Peggy and to our surprise No one fell or spoiled her dress And the event was considered a great success. But a greater achievement than all the rest Was our Junior Prom, as you might have guessed. And when it came to banquet time We fed the Seniors a meal sublime. Our number was reduced in a flash By Rusty McEleney and Tibby Ashe. According to this vanishing mode Wayne Bennet also hit the road. Although three members disappeared George came with Ed and the class was cheered. And so it was we had withstood The unhappy state of Juniorhood. We returned again for the final time Which means I soon will end this rhyme. When we received our final appellation We found ourselves in a new situation: Brand new school, rules and teachers, Beautiful gym complete with bleachers. The paper drive brought financial gain. A record hop was our next campaign. The school was not the only thing new, There were Larry, Sarah, Ed Bayliss, and Drew. Back to us from the smallest state Came Jim Gagliani, another class-mate. The yearbook staff worked week after week On the 1962 PEAK . George was the president we elected Maureen was the V.P. we selected. Patty Kerr was the secretary we chose, And Jane retained the treasurer ' s woes. Nancy DeSorgher, along with Drew, Were the Student Council two. Tammy Tell Me True was the school play, In which the Seniors showed the way: Lorry, Donna, Jim Gags, and Larry, With Ron and George had parts to carry. As Seniors a banquet was our due, Respectfully given by the Junior crew. Chiffon, silk, nylon, and lace, Tuxedos, flowers, beauty, and grace Together composed a breath-taking sight We shall always remember Senior Prom Night. The final event of our last year Was also the conclusion of our career. The strange thing about graduation Was the sadness of the situation. The fact we had neglected our years Was realized that night in tears. And so it was we did depart From our Senior year with a sadden heart. Andrea Carreiro Nancy DeSorgher Cathy lafolla Frances McCarthy CLASS PROPHECY We had come to Boston to participate in the 1975 World ' s Fair at the invitation of an old classmate, GEORGE SWEENEY, who is now President of the United States. We were personally greeted by George and his charm¬ ing wife, who invited us to dine on the Fair grounds at the beautiful and elaborate Ho-Jo ' s. The hostess JANE BRYCE led us to the table occupied by RONNIE GOGUEN and PATSY BUCKLEY. Patsy is the first women Sec¬ retary of State, and Ronnie is Secretary of the newly-formed Department of Entertainment in the President ' s Cabinet. Patsy told us that she had just heard PAM PETRIE speaking on her experiences as a missionary in Kenya, Africa, where ABUDI KOBAI is now Prime Minister. Abudi, we learn, is at the Fair ' s U.N. Plaza conversing on Afro-American relations with ROGER ADAMS, the U.S. delegate to the United Nations. After a delightful dinner Ronnie coaxed us into accompanying him to ' ' The History of Entertainment , which was his Department ' s contribution to the Fair. When we entered the theater we bought some popcorn from that Master of Corn, DREW HILL. Representing the vaudeville era were JIM GAGLIANI AND MONNIE McCARTHY doing the soft shoe; to bring back the circus era was that strongest of strong men TOM CEBROWSKI; and the Sizzling 60 ' s were recalled by our own Twistin ' Kids, PATTY MAYER and ED ROY. After the show we went to the popular Beat-Nik Bar operated for the Fair by JOYCE HUTCHINS. The feature attraction was KIP WATT ' s King- don Trio , in which ED DUGAN ' s mumbled rendition of his latest poem was accompanied by Kip on the bongos and ED BAYLISS on the flute. As we left we heard the lovely voice of LORRY GORDON, who is now a famous opera star, over the public address system. The next day we attended a Fashion Show sponsored by the First Lady. There we saw CAROL BOIS, designer of the Show ' s fashions. Sitting with her was FRANNY McCARTHY, who is now coiffeur for the First Lady, and who created the hairstyle worn by CATHY IAFOLLA, who was modeling in the Show. Reporting on the Show was PEGGY FRICK, who now owns, oper¬ ates, and publishes her own newspaper. 56 From there we proceeded to the center of the Fair grounds. On the way we saw BOB GUSTAVSON, an electronic technician, repairing the merry- go-round so that FAYE SLANEY ' s sixteen lovely daughters and single son might have a ride. The Fair ' s central attraction was a beautiful pool and fountain sur¬ rounded by banks of flowers, all designed by BOB BOIS, now a famous landscape architect. The flowers had been flown in by pilot ERIC BORMAN and airline hostess NANCY DeSORGHER. A slight mishap occurred when Nancy accidently pressed a wrong button and Eric was ejected. The plane landed in the bay, but LARRY ADMIRAL DEWEY rescued them, and PATTI KERR, head nurse on Larry ' s ship, patched up poor Rick. The Fair ' s Grand Finale was to take place in the giant sports arena, where every sport was represented by its greatest performer. As we took our seats we saw MARY McCARTHY, now Sister Mary Elizabeth, with a group of children she had brought to the Fair from an orphanage. Then the parade began. We were proud and happy to see some more of our old classmates in it. There was handsome MIKE DONAHUE, star tackle of the world ' s championship football team. Then came BRUCE JOHNSON, who had added two more feet to his height, and earned the title of Basket¬ ball ' s All-Time Great. Following him is NANCY WILLIAMS, coach of the Women ' s Championship Basketball Team. A little further on is JIM Mc- MAHON, 1975 ' s King of Baseball. For racing fans SUZANNE SPENDER had become the most famous and successful breeder of race horses, and we see her now leading her prize-winning stallion in the parade. A dif¬ ferent sight meets our eyes as, representing the Roller-Skating Rinks of America, ANDREA CARREIRO, free style champion of the world, performs on a miniature rink. Accompanying her is DONNA SUTCLIFFE, who owns and operates the largest roller-skating rink in America. Our attention is now drawn to the center of the arena, where a huge rocket ship is to be launched as an ending to this greatest of all World ' s Fair. Climbing into her seat in the nose of the rocket is SARAH EDDY, first lady astronaut. Sarah waves, dons her space helmet, and signals that she is ready. CHAN MENDELSOHN, designer of the ship, starts the count¬ down—10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, Blast off! 57 CLASS WILL We, the class of 1962, being exceptionally sound of mind, and possessing an unsurpassing amount of judgment and almost superhuman understand¬ ing, do, after deep consideration, make and declare this our last will and testament To Mr. Blake we leave the hope of finding his own private office far from the odors of iodine. The only loss was to Douglas by one point in an overtime. The girls averaged 49 points a game, while the guards allowed the opponents an average of only 22 points a game.
