With mingled feelings we met our homeroom teachers, Mr. F. T. Frank and Mr. J. H. Morris, and settled down to the Herculean task of being Freshmen. Our homeroom teachers for the next three years were: Mr. J. E. Morris, Mr. R. Tiffany; Mrs. Potter, Miss Ryan; Mrs. Pederzini, Mrs. Warburton. We have appreciated their able assistance. Officers during our high school years were as follows: 1955-1956 President . KEN SPENCER Vice-President . DON JOHNSON Secretary . ROBERTA EBURNE Treasurer . MIMI CALLACHAN 1957-1958 President .WILLIAM DUGAN Vice-President . HILARY NOWERS Secretary . PAULA KEIRSTEAD Treasurer . JOHN HORGAN 1956-1957 President . PAUL DEWAR Vice-President . ROBERT IAFOLLA Secretary .... WARREN HARRINGTON Treasurer . DON JOHNSON 1958-1959 President . WILLIAM DUGAN Vice-President . RAY WARBURTON Secretary . PAULA KEIRSTEAD Treasurer . JOHN HORGAN In October, at the Junior-Freshman Frolic, we cowered in terror as the Juniors sub¬ mitted us to such horrors as the Hen Party, the Marine Drill Team, and the Beauty Contest. In the latter part of the year, we welcomed three new members, Ann Rhodes, Peggy Gaffney, and Dave Watt. As Sophomores, we ordered class rings in March, and enjoyed the privilege of dec¬ orating for the Seniors’ graduation in June. Judy DeForest and Jackie Iafolla had left us, but the arrival of Laurrie Brinckerhoff, Mike Corcoran, George Gagliani, Warren Harrington, and Jimmy Kingston more than filled the gap. To the disappointment of the rest of the class, Paul Dewar, Butch Duval, Peggy Gaffney, Warren Harrington, Bob Holt, James Kingston, and Ken Spencer were no longer with us. We welcomed Gretchen Gibbs, Butch Brady, and Kenneth Jodoin to our ranks. With the help of the Seniors, in December we put on a Christmas Dance, which really embodied the spirit of the holidays. The Class held a Miss Medfield Hop in March. Janice Hutchins, a Senior, was awarded the honor although Carol Mills and Gussie Farrell proved strong competition. On May 2, at our Junior Prom we enjoyed the music of Jeffrey Carleton and the beautiful decora¬ tions among which were a glittering chandelier and In our Junior year, we held a Mardi Gras, breaking the time-honored tradition of the Junior-Freshman Frolic. It was every bit as successful, with the Fresh¬ men in costume performing dances. a bubble fountain. Dinner and more dancing at the Monticello contributed to a wonderful evening. Later in the month at the Junior-Senior Banquet, the Seniors read their will, history and prophecy to us. VW ; ■ In June, Carol Keirstead, with Roberta Eburne as alternate, represented Medfield High School at Girls’ State, and Lincoln Potter and Bradley Bowden did the same at Boys’ State. We began our Senior year minus Betty Alger, James Bennett, Carol Mills, Frank Travers, and Dave Watt; Greg Manning had joined us. Much fun and a profit besides were obtained from a paper drive in October. A beautiful Christmas tree, elves, and a Santa Claus were included in the decorations for the dance put on by the Seniors in December. An equally memorable dance was put on in February by the Yearbook Staff to com¬ memorate Valentine’s Day. With great anticipation our class is looking forward to Graduation Night during which both the commencement exercises and a reception will be held. Our unforgettable years at Medfield High School will culminate in what we are certain will be one of the loveliest Senior Proms ever staged. Class Colors: BLUE AND WHITE Class Motto: THE TRUTH SHALL MAKE YOU FREE 38 Class Prophecy Carol Clougherty Joseph Santosuosso Last week while I was reporting for the Boston Traveler’’ on the opening of a new nuclear-powered electric plant, I ran into Joe Santosuosso, reactor designer. After the ceremonies he decided to spend some time observing how a reporter operated. He got his wish more quickly than he had anticipated for the phone rang immediately upon our entering my office and in a few moments we were on our way to get a story. A fire had broken out in a bachelor apartment inhabited by Gussie Farrell and Judy Kelley who were being coaxed by Fire Chief, Ken Jodoin, to jump into a fire net. Judy, who was talking long-distance to Don Johnson between halves of the year’s biggest basketball event, was finally carried out, phone in hand. On phoning in our report, Joe and I were informed that Chris Perrin, star of the current hit, Lovely Lady,’’ and Dave Kempton, composer of the musical, were to arrive at Logan airport in three minutes. As we were to interview this famous pair when they landed, we needed the fastest taxi in town. Mike Corcoran was the answer to our prayer—we didn’t drive, we flew! The plane hadn’t arrived when we got to the airport and Joe needed a cup of coffee to calm his nerves; so we went to a nearby restaurant operated by Paul Scribner. He told us that the flight we were expecting had been canceled, so after Joe finished his coffee, we returned to the office to await further assignments. We had only five minutes to rest before we took to the road again. A teachers’ con¬ vention was being held at Vassar College where psychologists Ann Rhodes and Gretchen Gibbs would address such noted educators as Carol Belmont, Brad Bowden and Carol Keirstead. While talking with these former classmates, we learned that Jeanne Hamilton had also become a teacher, but was unable to attend because she had had another car accident on the way. Back at the office, Joe and I read the latest edition of the paper which my secretary, Mimi Callachan, presented to us. While I looked at the sports page, Joe found a picture of Pete LeBlanc and his new Flare Missile. As usual I was interested in seeing how the Red Sox were doing and was happy to learn that they had won again thanks to the efficiency of their star shortstop Line Potter. In the football previews, Coach Bill Dugan predicted that, with Bob Iafolla playing tackle and John Horgan playing guard, his team should have another successful season. The headlines however read, SCHOOL CHUMS TIE 3 MINUTE MILE!!’’ and the school chums were none other than Greg Manning and Austin Smith who were running for the U.S. in the Olympic games at Los Angeles. Suddenly I received a message that there was a private plane waiting for us at Logan ready to take off for parts unknown. We were to have a police escort to the airport and were happy to find state trooper, Butch Brady, ready to go. On boarding the plane, we found Mae Kingsbury was our stewardess. Having left the office in such a hurry we still didn’t know where or why we were going, so I asked Mae if she knew. She told us that Laurrie Brinckerhoff, while doing some geology work in the Himalayas, had captured the abominable snowman. After Joe quieted down a little we noticed that we weren’t the only passengers on the plane. Marie Knowles, a nurse, and Roberta Eburne, a social worker, were also part of the expedition. Marie was to help the doctors and Roberta was to determine whether or not it would be wise to introduce the snowman into modern society. Upon arrival in Nepal we were met by Dr. Jim Lindberg, now a leading psychologist, his head nurse Hilary Nowers, and his secretary Paula Keirstead. The snowman was a true giant, over nine feet tall and weighing almost % of a ton. Since there weren’t any cages strong or large enough to hold him, the Marines had flown in Sergeant Pat Regan. Even though Pat was still only about 5’ 6”, he was a Marine, and, as a former Marine had told us, that makes all the difference in the world. When Pat walked up to the snowman, the poor creature covered its eyes and ran off howling as if he were about to be killed. Actually it wasn’t that he was afraid of Pat as much as that he was blinded by the glare from all Pat’s medals. After getting the story from Laurrie, we headed back to the states and stopped in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the new Federal Science Insitute designed by Ray Warburton. Bill Warburton is in charge of the physics program at the Institute while Linda Cain heads the Department of Physical Therapy. Naturally Joe wanted to look around so we went inside. Less than five minutes later we ran into another Medfieldite, Anne Hull, head receptionist. After chatting awhile we left, knowing that our former class¬ mates had everything in full control. Once back in Boston, I decide to go shopping, so I dragged Joe over to Jordan Marsh where Jane Anderson is Chairman of the Board. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of seeing Jane and exchanging notes on current gossip, so we went up to her roof-top office. While there we found that Nathan Nye, the Elvis Presley of this new generation, had just released another record, selling nearly one and a half million copies in less than two days. After our gab session I woke Joe, who had fallen asleep on a couch and was snoring up a storm. We went back to the office and rested up a bit before Joe returned to his plant. We were both thoroughly exhausted but extremely happy and very proud of our M.H.S. graduates. Gibbs, A. Rhodes. The Medfield Chapter of the National Honor Society was organized in the spring of 1958. Induction ceremonies for Medfield’s first members were held on May 23, 1958. Acceptance into this society is the highest honor that may be accorded to a student at Medfield High School. Students are nominated first by Scholarship and then evaluated on the qualities of Character, Leadership and Service by the Honor Society Council composed of four faculty members and the Principal. Final approval of each candidate rests with the affirmative vote of ninety per cent of the faculty. The initial group accepted into the Society consisted of three members of the Class of 1958: James Bois, Patrick Harris and Janice Hutchins; four members of the Class of 1959: Gretchen Gibbs, Carol Keirstead, Ann Rhodes and Ray Warburton; and one member of the Class of I960 accepted as a probationary member, Barbara Stevens. Advisor to this group is Mrs. Pederzini, chairman of the faculty council. 79 AUDIO-VISUAL GROUP DRIVERS EDUCATION GROUP J. Santosuosso, E. Dornig, Mr. J. E. Morris, Advisor; J. Marcionette C.
