crass memory In 1942 we began our high school as Freshman in the halls of Meckling. That fall the class had a total of twelve members. You will remember them as Alich Lawelel0B.Viola Lund, Irene Hanson, Betty Lou Larson, Edna Jbrgensen, Roberta Bye, Florence Peterson, Dorothy Rudolph, Myrtle Meers, Harold Skow, Gene Hollingsworth, Howard Frank, and Francis Whitehorn. On the second Friday of school we were intro- duced to the ways of high school by a thorough initiation by the Sen- iors. Alich Lawerenoe left our class during the fall. In March Fran- cis Whitehorn moved leaving us with ten members. Georgia Clark join- ed the class in March bringing the total up to eleven. Some of the members took part in the high school operetta, USunbonnet Sueu, which was presented in March. We were guests of our advisor, Mrs. Breeding, at a supper held in her home. In the fall of our Sophomore year, Bernice Bblzerland and LeRoy Nance entered our class. Bernice left during the first of the year to take up her schooling in Centerville. Viola Lund also left during the first of the year. In October the class held a hay-ride party. We were also entertained at several parties during the year, one of which was the farewell party for Carl Berglund at Eiler Jensen's. Rita Dra- fahl came in February. LeRoy Nance took part in the Junior Class Play while Irene Hanson took part in the Senior Class Play. In our Junior year which as we look back was the beginning of as beehivo of activity. our class dropped to ten when Rita Drafahl, LeRoy Nance and Irene Hanson failed to return. We were guests at farewell parties held in February for Doroth Clark and Donald Yestness. Some- thing which we had 'been looking forward to was the ordering of our class rings in January. We started out our numerous Mend of the yearn activities when we began practicing the Junior Class Play, UThe Mis- placed Decimalu, under the direction of Mrs. Breeding. The play was presented in April. The Junior-Senior Banquet was one of the high- lights of the year. It seemed very special to us as it was the first formal banquet held in Meokling for many years. Miss Bendixon, our class advisor had charge of the preparations for the banquet. We end-f ed our year by attending a roller-skating party held at River Sioux. At last the long awaited year. We were finally SENIOBS!!We lost four mmmbers when Howard Frank, Dorothy Rudolph, Roberta Bye, and Flo- rence Peterson did not return. The number of our class was brought up to eight when LeRoy Nance and Bernice Holzerland returned to Meckling to finish their schooling. To start the year off right we officiat- ed at the initiation of the Freshmen. To make up for our severe treatment of them we took the Freshmen and the rest of the high-school to m rollerwskating party at River Sioux. we took a dBy's vacation when we went to Sioux City to have our pictures taken. The next event on our busycalender was the presentation of the Senior Class Play, HCyclone Sallyu in November under the joint direction of Mrs. Hoy and Miss Swedberg. The Seniors and Freshmen were the hosts at a Hard- times party for the Juniors and Sophomores. Everyone attending the party was required to wear overalls. We were the guests of the Jun- iors at the Junior-Senior Banquet on May 3. Commencement Day arrived in May to find eight sad but happy Seniors eagerly awaiting it and with many farewells they left the halls of Meckling for the last time as students. Q
