V9 9V 7 g,. AV AZ C ZJ ctf IfM When that diploma reaches the palm of our hands. We think of our past memories and future plans. From the first days of school. When we didn't know what to do. Until our last days together. Which have changed us forever. We all have made plans to keep in touch. We will try so hard to do so much, To never forget those first days of school, To our last days before our lifes renewal. We now have made all of our future plans. But the true future lies with what is placed in our hands. The Saratoga-Warren B.O.C.E.S. center is located in Saratoga Springs. The center gives advanced training to students so when they leave high school they'll have the qual- ifications to move directly into the main stream of the working world. According to the student’s schedule they may either attend morning of afternoon class- es. The students are mixed in with students from sev- eral different districts. B.O.C.E.S. gives these stu- dents a social link and a worthwhile experience. Cosmetology Cosmetology is an intro- ductory course for those students who want to go into hairdressing. There were only a few who were always there to help and others would just come and go. If there is one person who deserves total credit its Mrs. Chorman. Boy. can that woman scream. We would like to thank her for putting up with all the trouble we put her through and always sticking by us. Teresa. Noelle. and Beth were also very loyal to our yearbook. We learned a lot about each other through this time. First, Noelle has a temper which she DOESN'T try to keep in. Teresa learned to hate the typing room, and Beth was here but always befuddled. Sherry did most of the layouts. Kevin took the most blurry pictures in the world which he refers to as Artistic”, while Mike popped in whenever he had 15 minutes to spare. Lynn came in to work occasionally practicing her foul one liners. Michele came in when she didn't have to work and took care of the BOCES section, so we have to credit her with it or blame it on her. This yearbook has been a headache for many and represents a great many hours which will probably never be fully appreciated. Since most of the deadlines were missed we entitled this yearbook. Separate: Coach DeChiro The 1987 Softball team was comprised of alot of hard working and talented indi- viduals. With a leauge record of 9-4 and an overall record of 10-4. it’s obvious that these girls had a very good season. The team was made up of three seniors, six juniors, four sophomores, and four fresh- men: this is encouraging news for the '88 team. Good-bye and Good Luck was wished to seniors Bonnie McBride. Kristin Pick- ett. and Dawn Dieckman. We also wish the best of luck to the '88 team. 46 'i. • «.'i—• jJ • LV • il • • ,Vi'' ’ v «’ 'Vyf v ’ «'A ik' ., . '• i T % • « I r. Last year's Track team proved to be fair competition for other teams in the Council, even though they were disap- pointed by their record. Team members worked hard under the direction of Coach Stipano. We are also told, that though their record suffered in '87. their appetites didn’t. We would like to wish good luck to the '88 team, and say good- bye to Seniors Jodi Russell. Ann Cavotta. Cathy Green. Erin Rocco. and Ann Volpe. 48 Cross Country this year was under the management of Maria Mastropie- tro. The team really seemed to en|oy themselves, and with a decent 3 3 re cord, that’s not hard to believe. Liz McCann and Nancy Cavotta were named to the Colonial Council All-Star Cross Country Team. We would like to congratulate them on their outstand- ing season. The seniors of this team were Cyndi Hopeck and Jim Waldron. Mike Mellon. Craig Corson. Kevin Tollisen. and Dave Mastropietro. This team proved that they have competitve spirit when they bowled themselves into the Class C-D sectionals. We also had a heartbreaking loss to Whitehall. It brings with it anger, frustration, and an emptiness which cannot be described in words. It also brings apprehension, fear that your players, program, and your Community will lose their desire, interest, and intensity that has been a major part of the excellance that we have experienced over the years. We have just completed a football season that was a stern test for all involved. Throughout the ''87 season, our mental and physical toughness was challenged. The inju- ries. defeat, and controversy constantly measured what RED RAIDER FOOTBALL was all about, and in what direc- tion it may head. Although we suffered more defeats than victories, we passed the TEST OF CHARACTER! We Survived! We sur- vived. because of the young men who make up our pro- gram. Their willingness to endure and compete at a level we are so accustomed to expect, prevailed. It wasn’t an easy task to come to practice during the second half of the season, knowing the SUPER BOWL and Sectional Playoffs were remote possibilities. Yet. you con- tinued to work har and exemplify what our program is all about. You never QUIT”, and for that, each of you should be PROUD. You faced adversity and overcame it. With all the talent that easily noticed on this team it gives us all great hopes for a Varsity team as Super as the ones we have had recently. 71 V % • I . v- I • •' 1 •if)4 '1% , r.v ‘sN I ■ 3 rV S A ‘1 Row I: Jenny Sparano. In our last year through the doors of MHS, all kinds of sporting events and spectacles were on our minds. Actually, this was the year of upsets, the Cinderella year” as it was called. The NBA is always a place that catches the eyes of fans, young-and-old. Who would be on top? Would it be the history rich Celtics, the always tough Lakers, or maybe an upcoming team like the Hawks or Pistons? When the season ended, would there be an upset? Not this year! The season ended with the usual Celtics-Lakers rivalry. In a way, it was an upset as the Los Angeles Lakers shocked the Boston Celtics, 4-2 in what proved to be the final year Julius Dr. J.” Erving. As we leave the NBA. we move to Major League Baseball. The setting is right for Cinderella. She does and her glass slipper is ready. But who’s foot fits? Many teams thought it was theirs. Among the worthy were the San Francisco Giants, the Minnesota Twins, and the St. Louis Cardinals. The biggest upset occured when the Minnesota Twins had a perfect fit and stunned the Cardinals, 4-3. Baseball also saw many careers rise and fall. Dwight Gooden of the Mets went through rehabilitation, and Pete Rose retired as a player to concentrate on managing the Reds. As we continue our travels, our next stop is the NFL. The season was cluttered by a four- week long strike which hurt some teams but hurt others. Instead of sitting back and doing nothing, the owners’ brought in replacement players and went on with the schedule. When the Super Bowl approached, we saw the New Orleans Saints with their first winning record ever and a very disappointing year for the defending champions, the New York Giants. On Super Bowl Sunday, the Washington Redskins blew out the Denver Broncos 44-10 and proved they were the best team ’88 had to offer. We move from the NFL to college football. Here, the Syracuse Orangemen were the surprise team in the NCAA as they went undefeated, ending with a 16-16 tie in the Sugar Bowl against Auburn. The best this year, however, were the Miami Hurricanes who outdueled the Oklahoma Sooners in the Orange Bowl. Right across the road is college basketball. The year in the NCAA started with a jinx on Syracuse as they were ranked pre-season at number one. The year had several upsets, and at this time, Temple is number one, Arizona is second, and Perdue ranked third. The Big East was won by Pittsburgh, but another upset was Siena's victory as North Atlantic Conference champions with a 23-4 record and a possible NCAA bid. Our journey now moves north to the Winter Olympics in Calgary Canada. The United States had a tough time in these games, winning only 5 medals. Figure skater Brian Boitano captured our first gold of the games, while Bonnie Blair’s speed skating captured our second. A major disappointment in the Games was the U.S. Hockey team’s poor showing. Still the Olympics united nations for a moment in a world wracked by regional conflicts. Near the road’s end are the miscellaneous sports. The big news is ranked Mike Tyson continues his dominance in boxing. The Albany Patroons are also full of surprises as rookie coach, Bill Musselman. leads the Pats to many records and a 46-6 season. And so, we had upsets, and we had unexpected winners. We had records broken and tears shed to end a unlike any other in the world of sports.
