Although the editor-in-chief had the most responsibility, each staff member helped to make the job easier. Any free time was filled by carrying out yearbook responsibilities in order to comply with deadlines. Many small contributions that added perfection to the yearbook were often over- looked but were greatly appreciated. The hard work and dedication of the Half Moon '86 staff success- fully produced, in our opinion, one of the best year- books ever! 11 The Business Staff has been working diligent- ly this year We have earned a great deal of money producing a bigger budget for the Half Moon '86 staff to work with. With Mrs. Gibeau as business advisor, the staff has been very busy raising money by run- ning football and basketball snack bars. As you can see. our hard work and dedication has helped pay for another outstanding yearbook publication BUSINESS STAFF AND TYPIST HALFMOON â86 BUSINESS STAFF Row 1: Mica Larkin. Chorus is an activity in which people raise their voices in song We sang songs that varied from old to new. from blues to rock-n roll, and even some holiday songs We not only enjoyed ourselves, but we also learned to work with each other. FIELD DAY 28 Half Moon 1986 30 Half Moon 1986 To work during high school is a choice many students make. Though they may sa crafice a few school activities or some free time on weekends, they gain much more. While in the working world one aquires great experience, added responsibility, extra mon- ey and many new acquaintances. All in all a working student deserves much respect and recognition. SPORTS Sports 33 This year the cross-country team, coached by Mr Snyder, proved to be fairly competitive in the league Being such a young team, experience was limited and injuries were a major problem late in the season. Nancy Cavotta deserves special recognition for making the Colonial Council Girls All-Star Team for the second year in a row. Walt Dingman also had a fine year placing first at the Cohoes Invitational and Ann Cavotta proved to be a hopeful contender on next years' team by improving her time in every race. The highlight of the season seemed to be the girls placing third at the Colonial Council meet With the return of this yearâs number one runner. Jim Waldron, and new uniforms, the cross-country team looks to be a class act of next year's season. GOLF The golf team had a successful year Dan Pickett and Jeff DeVito qualified for the All Golf Team, while Mile Dickson quilified for the sec- ond team Dan Pickett participated in the State Intersectional Tournament was one of the top nine finishers in Section II. The team finished 9-1 in the league and they were 15-1 overall They were the Colonial Council League Co-Champi- ons and placed first in the Ravena Invitational Tournament In Sectionals, they placed second in the Class C and D. Another Sophomore, Mike Salvadore, had the high average in the Colonial Council with a 176. They were followed by seniors Mark Coleman and Dave Krawjewski who each carried a 171 average. Rounding out the top 5 was junior Bob Lavigne with a 170 average. Also contributing to the teams success were Deb Marotta, Heather Henderson, Dave Guilianelli, Barb La- vigne, and Chuck DeVito. The future looks bright for this team, even though they are losing three key bowlers, Jeff Alonzo, Mark Coleman, and Dave Krawjewski. Many young team members will put this year of experience to work next year, in the hopes of producing a winning season. Varsity soccer was a brand new sport at M.H.S. this year As a varsity team the Raiders had a respectable 1-14-1 record in the tough Colonial Council. The seniors that will be leaving the team are Ed Krajewski. Mike Munger, and Mike Verdile. who were also the tri-captains, Steve Phillips, and Brian Olson. The goaltending was taken care of by seniors Phillips and Olson and the strong fullbacking crew consisted of Kevin Saunders, Mike Verdile. Dave Phillips, and Ben Jose coming off the bench. Up front the scoring was shared by high scoring Mark Verdile, Mike Munger, Ed Krajewski and Jay Larkin. Also helping out up front were Brett Farbstein, Kevin Otis. Paul Vermilyea, Jon Skinnerup, and David Mastropietro The Raiders were a young team that should be a building block for successful teams with a lot of experience in years to come. RED RAIDER It started with Scully, it was pretty bad, a 0 0 tie Cavotta got mad His papers were flying; his veins popping out. We were better than them, he had no doubt We practiced hard the next week, without taking rest, to prove once again that weâre better than best This time it was Whitehall, they thought they were tough, by the end of the half, they knew we were rough 13-zip was the final score. Stillwater was to be our next chore The Wicked Warriors, they thought it was so, until they met up with Murdererâs Row.â They actually believed that they had a chance, until on their faces our team did a dance. We kicked their buts, 20-zero, We were all awesome, there was no one hero. We marched on to Granville without any fear. Their fans were rude, their intentions clear. They were the first to score on the Radiers this year It came to the end. they were sure they had won. but Steven dropped back and loaded the gun Sgambati to DâAloia into the endzone. you wouldnât believe the awesome ride home' Now off to Draper on a clear afternoon The game started late, but for them too soon We literally slaughtered those poor guys. We had no losses, and no more ties! Now for a real match, its Schulervilleâs turn, the Mudder's were fair, they just had to learn The final score read 20-8, It was supposed to be tough, I guess we're just great We had the bonfire and the float parade, we went through homecoming, the whole charade The guys went home early, they were all set to play, they never imagined they'd have such a day. For the first time all year, our awesome team lost, this week at practice they'll all pay the cost Scenic runs and ups and downs, next week's game weâll crush those clowns Friday night was no laughing matter, we lost the game, faced the mad hatter How could we lose, our team is the best, we never expected thereâd be such a test Then Bugsy scored and gave us some hope, by the time we got psyched it was the end of our rope. Our regular season is over and done, now maybe sectionals, who knows whatâs to come We waited awhile, and then got the news, it was Schulerville again, they knew they would lose The game went smooth like a sunny vacation, it left possibilities for a sectional invitation. We qualified to get a bid, but Voorheesevile shut the lid We werenât on the list for a sectional game, it was the end of our triumph, our victory and fame So now it's all over, the equipment returned, in our minds the memories are burned Red Raiders again, we can be never, but in our hearts, we're Red Raiders FOREVER! VARSITY BASKETBALL This yearâs Varsity Basketball team had an excellent season finishing 18-5 and Colonial Council Co Champs overall. Led by senior scorers Mike Munger and Jerry Hmura, the defense of Ed Krajewski and Dan Pickett, and the strong inside game of Kevin Saunders, the Raiders posted one of the best seasons in Colonial Council History. The Raiders also counted on Joe Higgins for his off the bench scoring and Paul Vermilyea and Sean Hunter for their ball handling, and Steve Swier and Kyle Kerls for inside help. The Raiders also received an added bonus as four players were named Colonial Council All Stars: Jerry Hmura (1st team), Mike Munger (2nd team) and Dan Pickett and Kevin Saunders (3rd team).
