New words have been brought into the English language, new techniques in writing have been developed, and newer, more complex meanings have been found in literary works. Our English department seeks to introduce the student not only to the modern aspects of English, but also to the basic techniques of development. The student benefits in many ways by acquiring such skills as increased vocabulary, improved public speaking, expressive and imag- inative writing, and better understanding of ancient and modern literature. 12
