The first major renovation to the building, in 1925, expanded classroom space by the addition of two large wings. Now in 1955, another wing has been added to the rear of the building. This houses a modern gymnasium and several much needed classrooms. The older section of the building has been modernized to provide newer facilities for a better educational system for the youth of our area. Because of this extensive building program which we have lived through, we, the Class of 1955, have chosen Construction as our Yearbook theme. Now the seventh grade has been added to complete Junior High within our walls. In the following pages we shall try to illustrate the life of a Senior High student which includes I Oth, I Ith and 12th grades. The finishing touches have been added as we are about to graduate. It is our earnest hope and prayer that the classes to come after us will cherish the old school spirit, but will enjoy the new, modern facilities of our high school reconstructed. Dedication and Appreciation As the production of this Yearbook progresses, so too did the construction of the new addition to our school. This construction was made possible by the generous tax-payers of the city who agreed to an increase in taxes so that the teenagers of the area might have a more suitable place of study and recreation. The Board of Education also played a great part in further- ing the cause for this construction. Therefore, at this time, we, the Class of 1955, wish to express our deepest appreciation to the Board of Education, and dedicate this, the Halfmoon of 55” to the taxpayers of Mechanicville. Administration and Faculty As construction workers need leadership so do stu- dents. Ours is supplied to us by our principal, F. Wayland Bailey. A building, as we know, is never completed unless a foundation is laid first. So too a person's educa- tion is never terminated until a solid foundation is established. We hope that everyone will realize that our faculty at M. H. S. and they alone can assure us of secure and lasting structure of edu- cation. We are deeply grateful for their enormous Another vital necessity in efforts in trying to make us a bit more intellectual any field is supervision. An ample supply is given and better citizens. us by our superintendent of schools, Michael T. Griffin. This is also true in the publication of a school yearbook. This planning is done by our yearbook staff, which is composed of three units, the editorial staff, the art staff, and the business staff. Each staff has its duties to perform, and when the work of each is combined properly, a fine yearbook is obtained. S. Micklas. J. Seid. Art Editors, O. Ksenich B. Gordon. D. Golden, Asst. Bus. Manager, E. Whitbeck. Bus. Manager, J. Lavigne. Halfmoon Staff Editors:J. Lavigne. J. Noonan. As contractors of schools try to give the students the newest and most up-to-date school supplies possible, the staff of our school paper tries to give the latest happen- ings taking place in the school. In addition to the im- mediate happenings of the day, the members of the staff work diligently so that they might include stories, poems, games and puzzles written by the students of M. H. S. These articles help to make our paper one of greater interest to the students. This combination of news and other articles results in the completion of a most successful paper. M. It took many strong men to build the addition and redecorate the school. So too, it takes many strong men to make up a football team. Luces is serious, it's when he eims. When bricks start to fall away from a building there arises within the proprietor a certain fear of collapse. Then when he finds they can be replaced without de- struction he again resumes his normal ways. Some- thing similar to this situation occurred at M. H. S. in 1954 when our famed Whiz Kids graduated. The season of 53-54 looked pretty dismal until our hero, Coach Izzo, came along and brought with him some bricks to mend the damaged wall. These replacements soon became known as the Iron Men who went on to gain their own fame as one of the strongholds of the section. Even in defeat they remained sportsmen. These athletes provided great excitement for all fans, leaving behind them a record of eleven points total loss. Coach Whoeppel's jayvees should not, however, be overlooked as they came very successfully through the season, closing the season by winning the Bailey-Sex- ton trophy which was donated by the principals of Mechanicville and Saratoga High respectively. Practice males perfect that motto sure helped D. Nolan. 64 The Big Five , R. Costamo, J. Lanione, D. Nolan, B. Lucas, C. Pasquarelle. B. Bruno, a J. V. player, guards R. Cos tanzo during a practice session. Coach Izzo gives instructions to his vary capable second string C. Fabi, A. Fitch. M. Anatriello. B. Van Detta. M. Walsh. Oh darn! C. Pasquarelle thought is was in. The Jayvees really laid it on in practice. Here L. Pochette, and L. Peluso are talcing pretty good care of J. Lanzone. R. Costanzo shows L. Peluse how to hold the baseball when pitch- ing. He knows! Baseball and Track Well, I guess the umpire was right, but gee, Don't grab the mitt, I'm going I sure wish he wasn’t T. Petronis, B. Lucas, to take it off. M. Walsh. E. Thompson. That a boy D. Nolan bend! What a catcher! Oh, I’m so tired. B. Honningson. Hurry up and snap it, everyone else is at t+ie starting May the best man win. D. Pregent, B. Bruno, M. line. D. Parente, T. Lanzone. L. Whalen, D. O'Malley. Anatriello, Coach Woepple. 66 Hurry, it’s almost time. K. Kenyon. G. Marinello. N. Izzo, P. Cer- Kowski. T. La Vigna, V.
