It had six members and was sponsored by Miss Ackart, principal, and Mrs. Barton of the English department. The aim of Aristoi is to promote high scholastic standing and better leadership. To be eligible for Aristoi, students must have twelve units and an average of at least 84%. This year, Aristoi has 23 members. At the first meeting in November, 1945, the officers elected were: President, John Dalton; Vice President, Rose Robens; Secretary, Rose DiFucci; Treasurer, Gloria Nelson. The present faculty advisor is Miss Howe. The activities of Aristoi include a social function held during the winter in the domestic science rooms, a plan to familiarize underclassmen with the various scholarships available and the courses they must take in order to be eligible for these scholarships. Six members of the senior class of 1946, all of whom are in Aristoi, were elected to take a scholarship examination made out by the College Entrance Board and sponsored by the Pepsi-Cola Company. The scholarship offers, to two students in every state, full tuition, plus some living expenses and trans- portation costs, to any degree-granting college in the United States. It is hoped that at least one Mechanicville High School student will be able to win this generous scholarship. H. S. is continuing its splendid work in the school. Each member has done his share in aiding many of the projects that have arisen during the school year. Here are just a few illustrations of the types of work that are done by sendee club members. In the course of the year, we are asked to aid community and school projects in duplicating, stenciling, mimeographing and typing. Three members of the club are frequently called on to operate the movie picture machine. Volunteer members assist teachers of the Senior High School in any line of -work which is of benefit to our school. There are also members who take care of the publicity and distribution of the sale of stamps and bonds; then there are members who keep study hall clean. Under the capable leadership of Miss Hinehel, we have been able to accom- plish these tasks.
