Q CLASS HISTORY It was a warm sunny day when the class of nmeteen hundred and frfty nme entered the doors of M H S Everybody was go1ng every whxch way and there were all kmds of turmoil, but we managed to end up ln the first grade room At that time kindergarten and Hrst grade were together, our teacher was Mrs Strong We had a very large class and with the flrst graders the room was all but filled The krds starting school were Robert Boyd, James Crock, Gary Fairly, Le Roy Jackson, Larry Kaufman, Don Overbaugh joe Penmngton, Mary Jeanette Andre, Cheryl Carpenter, Roberta Conley, Jamce Ftsher, Linda l-leffleflnger, Margaret Streets Roy Campbell, Terry Flynn Robert Helm, Buddy Joslin, Curttss Long, Robert Kern, Brenda Boyles, Jeanette Deke, Jan1ce Holets, Joanne Hatcher, Sharon Park, and Judy Peck In first grade we were greeted at the door of the same room by Mm Bradley, now Mrs Ferguson By th1s mme we were all used to school and there wasn't as much crying David Walderback decided that he d1dn't want to go on to second grade so he rematned wrth us We also saw two more new faces Bonnie Beach and William Eliott We lost Janrce Frsher, Buddy Joslrn and Roberta Conley We all liked first grade because there was telling time each morning and on Fridays we would go into the thtrd grade room to listen to story mme on the radio Our teacher, Miss Bradley, would always read us an Uncle Remus story, we enjoyed this very much At the begrnning of the second semester, we gained Larry Koch and Lxnda Harness, but we lost Judith Peck and Jo anne Hatcher ln second grade our class was where the ktndergarten IS now Our teacher was Miss McDermott There was only one new face this trme and that was Edward Mason, but he stayed for only twelve weeks In the second semester we gamed back Joanne Hatcher At recess we would always go outsrde and play cowboys and robbers, or we would play vv1ld horses The year of 1949 found us ln th1rd grade Our teacher was Mrs Shaffer and our room was the same as tt IS now We gamed only one girl that year, Theresa Lee Phlllpps One day Roy Campbell was goofing off rn clam with a rope and Mrs Shaffer tied him to his desk This d1dn't stop him from talking so she put scotch tape over has mouth In fourth grade we moved across the hall rnto the room that ls now the first grade There we were greeted by Mrss Clark We thought that we were pretty brg now because we were rn fourth grade We could rule over the sand piles and once in a while we could sneak up town We lost Theresa Plultpps and Margaret Streets The second semesterwe lost Bobby Helm and Larry Kaufman In sprte of the three losses we gamed one new boy, Charles Bates ln the year 1951, we were all proud of movtng to the top floor We found ourselves tn the fifth grade room Our teacher was Mrs Kern We d1dn't lose any pup1ls and we gamed Wanda Thompson and Dorma Deerberg The second semester we gained Joyce Wall, Harold Goldsmrth and Bllly More We llked fifth grade because we could go down the fire escape when there were fire drrlls We were all shocked to hear of no more recesses but I guess we were be- gmning to grow up by thts tirre One time we were all standing around w1th nothing to do, when someone suggested that we play blackout. Well Brenda Boyles trled lt, got dizzy, and fatnted She hst her head on the fire escape door and had to have her head bandaged That was the last time we ever played blackout The year 1952 found us in sixth grade berng met by our new teacher Mrss O'Br1en The srxth grade room was 1n the same room that it 15 now We gamed one new gtrl at the start of school That was Sharon Umbdenstock We lost LaVandah Petty and Wanda Thompson In the second semester Ed Kleppe, Fern Dawson and Jennifer Schnerder Jorned our class, but at tlus same time, Curt Long moved to Stanwood The seventh grade was in the same place that it IS now Our teacher was Mlss Jones Jame McConaughy was the only new addrtion to our class and we lost Btlly More During the second semester Margaret Streets decided to come back wlth us We lost two of our boys, David Walderbach and Harold Goldsmith In eighth grade we moved to where the exghth grade room ls now Our teacher was Mrs Garton We were now wrth the high school and could go rnto the study hall We lost Jenmfer Schnetder and Larry Koch, but we gamed Phyl lis Rerd Marlene Nichols, and Rlchard Wrllxams Bob Boyd got S1Ck and went to school by the use of an rnter com system Once in a wlule we would l1sten to hrs radro when the teacher would step out of the room One day we all got together and gave htm a brrthday party The grrls baked cakes and the class bought htm a grft. We then proceeded over to his house All the boys tned to set down on his bed and rt broke down In sprte of the broken bed we all had a swell nme In the second semester we gamed Roger Wrlley but lost Jan1e McConaughy The next year found us moving from room to room Yes, we were now rn high school We lost Marlene Nrchols and Joanne Hatcher but we gamed Harold Weber, Larry Koch, and Slurley Skalsky The next year our class didn't change too much We gamed Drxte Elas and lost Rschard Wllltarns Jeanette Deke qult school to get marrred The year of 1957 found us as Jumors Tlus was go1ng to be a brg year for us Joe Penmngton and Don Overbaugh de ctded they had had enough schoollng and dropped out Janxce Holets got marned and Drxte Elas moved We gamed Juamta Biedenbach durtng the second semester Our Junxor class play was Curtatn Gorng Up We put on a very good prom The theme was Tropicana The year has tlnally come when we were to be called semors Charles Bates moved to Texas and Margaret Streets decided to get married durrng the summer Tlus left us wrth a graduating class of 19 They are Joyce Wall Sharon Umbdenstock, Donna Deerberg, Mary Andre, Roger Wrlley, LeRoy Jackson, Jrm Crock, Ed Kleppe, Fern Dawson, Cheryl Carpenter, Linda Hamess, Slurley Skalsky, Brenda Boyles, Juamta Bredenbach, Harold Weber, Larry Koch Bob Kem, Terry Flynn, and Bob Boyd The name of our class play was Sweetie Some of our fund ralsing actlvrues included a car wash and two paper dnves Our sen1or year will end wlth a trrp into Chicago with graduatlon followrng .ss s s r I 1 ' .
