CLASS HISTORY On August I4 1945 the Japanese srgned a peace treaty endrng World War Il Two weeks later I5 boys Bobby Achey John Albaugh Wally Albaugh Gaylord Beens Don Bohr Clarence Curtrs Roy Davrs Danel Dennrs Harold Goldsmrth Gary Greene B1l1y Johnston Frank Mlchael Joe Paxdar Robert Preper and John Frsher wrth I2 grrls Sandra Beach Karen Connor Verlyn Davrdson Danna Fawler Kay Hatcher Mar Ioan Park and Karen Albaugh entered the Mechanrcsvrlle Consohdated School to form the class of 58 We were greeted by our teacher Mrs Smay who had the duty of teachrng 26 young chlldren therr frrst year of school There wasn t much to leam thrs frrst year except to obey the teacher and to get accustomed to school After three months of vacatron we were eager to get back to school to start fust grade We had a class of 25 but our teacher Mrs Strong had a brg Job ahead of her Bobby Achey Frank Mrchael Sandra Beach and Karen Connor moved away whrle Brlly Johnston got s1ck and had to leave school for a whrle We also lost two grrls Kay Hatcher and Verlyn Davldson who decxded to skrp ftrst grade and go to second grade Srnce we lost all these students we were glad to have Raymond Hams Janet Maher John Coonface Davld Walderbach and Evan Grlmore Jorn us Thxs was the f1rst year we had to study Second grade was an mterestrng year for most of us Our class whrch had only I7 puplls was the smallest we have ever had Our only newcomer was a boy Max Thumma and movmg away were John Coonface Gay lord Beens John Frsher Danna Fawler Frances Rudd Karen St John Adnene Schnepp and Harold Goldsmrth Also there was Davxd Walderbach who decrded to stay rn frrst grade another year Our teacher thrs year was Mrss Sargent but later on she was called Mrs Vozbut Thrs puzzled us for a whrle but we soon caught on to the new name Once agaln we returned from summer vacatlon and started another year of school We were growmg In leavlng only 5 gxrls and I4 boys Th1s was the lowest number of grrls our class ever had Mrs Shaffer was our teacher and taught drscrplrne very well thrs year For an example one day she lrned up the whole class except three or four and made everyone bend over whrle she went around wrth a paddle teachrng the class not to have sand and st1ck flghts dur1ng the noon hour Dunng our fourth grade year we felt pretty btg srnce we were the oldest puprls on the bottom floor but Mrss Clark was there to make sure we d1d t get too brg We had a farrly good SlZCd class of 22 We lost Kenneth Watts and Evan Gllmore and garned frve new students Dorothy Stackhouse Deanea Smlth Ronald Messmaker and John Brunsmann About thls year we were gettrng more anxrous for vacatron to come than we were for school to start In our frfth grade year we met a brg change We moved upstarrs wrth all the older students which made us very proud This was the year we lost our recess and had to study Instead We looked forward to the frre dnll when we got to use the steel frre escape In back of the schoolhouse Our teacher Mrs Kern welcomed one new puprl James Wlnk to our class Two grrls Deanea Smlth and Rrta Russell moved away leaving us a class of 2l Thrs year we had several teachers rnstead of one Our home room teacher was Mrs Hodges and Mrs Mamnez was the other teacher who taught us Iowa Hrstory There were also a few students who played rn the band dlrected by Mrs Culbreth Thrs year we gamed Bryson Kelth and Cary Rhoads beavmg us were Ronald Messmaker Farth Phrlrpp John Brunsmann and Raymond Hams Our Juruor l-hgh days began when we entered seventh grade We had Junror Hrgh teams thrs year coached by Mr Erger and Mr Engelbert Our home room teacher th1s year was Mus Huckxns We garned three new students Brlly Tjaden Sharon Jackson plus Jrmmy Strregel, who decxded to take seventh grade over agarn wxth us We lost only one thrs year James Wrnk size, but not too fast. We gained Kenneth Watts, Wayne Robinson. Jack Biedenbach and lost Mar Joan Park,
