M. H. S. at Mid-Century Midway in the century is a fitting time for alumni and student body to think of the history of a great school. The old Washington Fire House served as 'the first Mechanicsburg High School building until the red brick building on High Street was completed in 1893. Later, sewing machines and kitchens were in- stalled and the shop and Gymnasium were added. The cornerstone of the modern building was laid in 1930, with an impressive Masonic ceremony. In 1937 the Agricultural Vocational Building was erected. The newest additions to MHS are the Home Economics Cottage, completed in the fall of 1949, and additional rooms made available to high school classes by the purchase of the grade school building on York Street.
