See the greatest show on earth! yells the barker of our carnival midway. Our 1950 Artisan theme is derived from the midway of a carnival as our class is graduated in the midway of the century. May this Yearbook serve as a record of our high school days and help us to remember the happy times we have had walking down the midway together-may it be an enduring reminder to keep alive the fires of friendship which were kindled at Mechanicsburg High. Without their guidance and untiring efforts, this book would not have been possible. We would like, also, to thank all the other members of the Mechanics- burg High School taculty who have helped with this production. Zlze fcfitom Six M. H. S. at Mid-Century Midway in the century is a fitting time for alumni and student body to think of the history of a great school. The old Washington Fire House served as 'the first Mechanicsburg High School building until the red brick building on High Street was completed in 1893. Later, sewing machines and kitchens were in- stalled and the shop and Gymnasium were added. The cornerstone of the modern building was laid in 1930, with an impressive Masonic ceremony. In 1937 the Agricultural Vocational Building was erected. The newest additions to MHS are the Home Economics Cottage, completed in the fall of 1949, and additional rooms made available to high school classes by the purchase of the grade school building on York Street. Members of the class of 1950 look for- ward to seeing another half century of progress in the field of education at Mechanicsburg High School. T hirty-six Senior Class History The year was 1947, and we realized that We were finally in Senior High School! David Coover led our class as President, with Scott Koser as Vice-President, Pat Hart- man, Secretary-Treasurer, and Grace Mum- ma, Student Council Representative. We had a grand time planning our class assembly, under the leadership of our homeroom teachers. Next came 1948, and we had our first chance to show our stuff! We presented the play, Elmer and the Lovebug under the direction of the Sophomore Class dean, Miss Bessie Bear, both as the high school assembly and as the Susquehanna Township exchange assembly. We selected our class rings, and attended the Sophomore Class party. Our able class officers were Fritz Orris, President, Charles Alexander, Vice- President, loan Gilbert, Secretary-Treasurer, and Grace Mumma, Student Council Rep- resentative. Then 1949, and we were really forging ahead. Dave Coover was elected lunior Class President, Don Badorf, Vice-President, Bev- erly Neff, Secretary-Treasurer, and Grace Mumma, Student Council Representative. Our class play, And Came the Spring under the direction of Miss Mary Ann Kem- per, proved to be a great hit. Can we ever forget the lunior Class assembly featuring Luigi Basco, Pasqualli, and Rosa? We re- ceived our class rings, and were greatly honored when eight of our classmates were elected to the National Honor Society. The great hit of the year was the lunior Prom, when we entertained the Seniors at The Allenberry with music by Fred B. Harry, lr.'s orchestra. Now at last it is 1950 and our days at MHS are over. Again Dave Coover was elected President, and lack lordan, Vice-President, Scott Koser, Secretary-Treasurer, and Grace Mumma, Student Council Representative. We started the year off with a bang selling hot dogs, candy and soft-drinks at the football refreshment stand. Magazine and candy sales zoomed, and new additions were made to the school in the form of maroon and steel jackets. The new Home Economics Cottage was opened, and a housewarming was held during the annual school exhibit. Thirteen football stars and two managers had played their last game on Thanksgiving Day. Our Senior play, Almost Summer, under the direction of Mrs. Mildred Mason, was the best yet. The final events of the year were the lunior Prom. our never-to-be-forgetten Class Day, and, above all, Commencement exer- cises. Only then did we realize that our years at MHS were at an end. Their class officers were President, Glenn Wolfe, Vice-President, Dorothy Arlene Stine, Secretary-Treasurer, Margaret Heath, Student Council Representative, Shirley Tressler, and class dean, Mr. Guy L. Vogelsong. The All Star class ring was chosen in their Sophomore year, and they pre- sented the annual class play under the direction of Miss Bessie Bear. Their officers for this year were Glenn Wolfe, President, Ann Parsell, Vice-President, Victor Barr, Secretary-Treasurer, Shirley Tressler, Student Council Representative, and Miss Bear, class dean.
