Sdifvrial Educational progress over the years has been great in all phases of school- ing, from the primary schools through college. We, the editors of the Pilot, feel that this advancement is well shown by the improved standing of Mechanic Falls High School. When you look at our building from the outside, it may seem rather small and yellow and, perhaps, drabg but when you come inside during the school day you would find it quite different. It may be small, but what is learned here is greatg the color may be yellow and drab, but the students don't feel that way, it isn't a little, yellow, drab school in their opiniong it is THEIR schoolg it belongs to them, and they love it. The student-teacher relationship is good, the teachers do not know a stu- dent by a number or a last name: they know the student by his first name and know ABOUT that student. Respect for the teachers is instilled in a student from the first day he enters our school, he is made to feel they are his friends, but he is not to take advantage of this friendship. Mechanic Falls High School has a high academic ratio in its classes, and students and teachers both are proud of that fact. They are proud of every student that goes on to a higher educa- tion, or on to a job, service, or a home, and makes good. They are proud when the graduates are given as much high praise as any other students are anywhere. The teachers try to give every stu- dent a thorough knowledge of every subject and teach him to apply it to his daily life. The text-books are not thought to be dry tepid things, hard to digest, they are used to add to the stu- dent's knowledge of the world that surrounds him, and to show him how to put every subject into practice on his own level 'and prepare him for his future Mechanic Falls High School is proud of its past graduates and plans to be just as proud of its future ones. The school will improve even more as time goes on and as education advancesg and through it all we shall be happy to say, I went to school there, and I am proud of it.
