The highlights of the season included FRONT ROW: Richard Dolan, Rodney Bisbee, Charles Lenahan, Burleigh Tibbetls, ,Arthur Cotton, SECOND ROW: Dexter Strout, Franklin Chapman, Roger Sargent, Jerome Ayers, Howard Ashby, Daniel Bisbee, Bruce Caler, Coach Fred Coffin. Baseball 5 7- 58 Under the new coach, Fred Coffin, the Mechanic Falls High School baseball team went on to another successful season The won and lost record was a mediocre 6 and 4. Although this doesn't seem very terrific, two of those losses went to the highly polished Leavitt Institute team which was the winner of the Sandy Val- ley Championship. And both of these losses were by a one run differential. a well earned victory over the mighty Freeport Falcons, winner of their divi4 sional championship. Also Burleigh! Tib- bett's spectacular one hit, six to nothing shutout over the strong Norway Rams avenged a twelve to two defeat by them earlier in the season. Offensively we were strong as usual. The team's batting average was close to 285 which doesn't seem too good, but considering the fact that we had two or three hitters with batting averages of less than one hundred, it is very good. The highest batting averages were: 500 and 428. Our team was a running team with Smalley Sargent leading in the stolen base department with 13. Defensively we were fair but lost most of our games on just plain mistakes. We had no great pitching besides Burleigh Tibbett's one hitter and Howard Asyby's Relief performances.
