Mr. Charles Simmer assistant Principal has helped many students in overcoming difficul- ties in their school life. He has been patient with our consistent deficiencies and continual- ly worked to make us better people. He won the admiration of the entire student body by his friendliness and willingness to listen to our problems. Many times he 'arrived early in the morning and was engaged with students till early the next morning. Since Mr. Simmer came in 1954 our attendance records have greatly improved. He has made us proud of our school by giving us a school to be proud of. You will soon leave school and become part of a world In which material things are pres ently important May it be your fortune to quickly realize the wisdom of the ages which points out that the real happiness of your ex istence is not determined by things but by a love of your fellow man manifested in ser vice to your family your community and your country May you serve with faith in human nature hope in its aspirations and with tolerance con cerning its deficiencies The good wishes of the entire faculty go with all of you JOHN LACKNER Principal -0 fs N- Y Row l Mrs Schcmpel Mrs Brown Mrs Lundberg Mr DeWcll Miss Garrlety ow 2 Mr Janusch Mr Sltzer Mlss Bumgardner M Brll Wlth the beginning of the new school year there appeared seven new members to the faculty Mr De Wall and Mr Llston came from across the raver to teach un the social studies and science fields respect lvely Mr Nlhart came from Johnson to teach wood shop and Mr Ken Wulluams came from Monroe to teach specnal classes and crafts Mr Henry lBrutsl Welsch came to the bug cltles from New Ulm to teach social studues and Mrs Brown came from nowhere land we sure are glad she camel to teach speech and drama Row l Muss Smuth Mrs Beard, Mrs Qunrk Mlss Scully Mrs Horman Mrs Knrkwood Row 2 Mr Bonnell Mr Munn Mr Nobns . -Q .a of 1 ' x . . 4 L t ' .i Q X ..- .: ,, , ... . .,. Though sufficient subscriptions were not ob- tained to keep the Cog going, a new feature was pre- sented to Mechanic Arts in the form ofa mimeographed paper called the Spoke. This paper came out every two weeks from its start in the fall, bringing all the latest news, gossip, and sports slants. lts editor was Sylvia Alexander and Pat Beane, associate editor. nish, Bus. These classes give earnest, interested students a chance to pursue their favorite subiect. The students in these classes produce many things during the year. there are assemblies, tele- vision programs and concerts to give a few in- stances. Many students form groups of their own. Groups who, in a few cases, hope to go to pro- fessional music careers. But whether or not they go on, the important thing is that they have found the wonderful companionship of sharing an in- terest with others. BAND ROW T: M. Tenenholtz, T. Hubler, J. Lyell, B. We are all extremely proud of our fine Girls Chorus. lt is always a wonderful thing when a school the size of M.A. can boast so many young ladies who are as talented as the ones here. Mechanic Arts has long been known through out the city as a school with a fine band. Un- fortunately for the past few years the band at M.A. has been dwindling in size, but what we lack in quantity, we certainly make up for in spirit. This spirit will without a doubt cause the commencement of the growth of our band. Intramural sports, under the direction of Mr. Welsch and Mr. Saari, proved to be big hits among the extra-curricular activities through- out the year. Having, perhaps, the biggest fol- Iowings were the bowling and rifle clubs. Next, were the games, such as, basketball, volley- ball, bowling, badminton, tumbling, and table tennis which gained in popularity on Sports Nights. There was, also, the intramural basket- ball and volleyball tournaments and the many other varied activities we had the opportunity to participate in. , .,,- 'iii 125115 1:2 ' 1 in :uv gf I 'I I. 4 .5 f 1, :X 5 4 ....
