I eniord 4 1 . ,. MECHANIC ARTS, ON CAPITOL HILL-Capitol Hill would be only half com- plete without the senior legislative body-the senate. Like a Minnesota senator, serving four years, a typical Mechanic Arts senior spends four years in the service of his school. Now that our term of ofhce is running short, we reHect back on our growth and our ac- complishments. As freshmen we learned to follow the rules set up for us by our senior advisory group. How we waited for the day to come when we could make our own laws, as well as those for the underclassmen. During our sophomore year we became aware that if a law was to be put through that would benefit our class, we had to be willing to work for it. We began to realize we too had power in the school life. Demonstrating this power and the will to work was the May Day Dance we sponsored. Already we were exercising our freedom to vote by electing our own king and queen. By the time we were juniors our growth was becoming very evident. A wise selection of class officers and representatives was made and they carried us through the year with successes like the Iunior Vodvil and the Iunior-Senior Prom. Our class grew through sorrows equally. The loss of our beloved coach and teacher, Gus Sundberg, left a dark spot in the happiness of our junior year. Another disappointment came when our football team lost the city championship. As if to compensate for this, our basketball team not only took the city and district championships but Finished third in the regional games. Our senior year at last! We are now the elders of the senate. Ever since our freshman year we have been thinking and planning about the things the Class of 1955 would accomplish. Again this year we have chosen an exceptionally good slate of officers and representatives. With their leadership the Class of 1955 is fast becoming one that will be long remembered for their helpfulness, cheerfulness, studiousness, and sincerity. Yes, accomplishments and sorrows have been many. But still as we close the door on the bustling halls of Mechanic Arts, our hope is that the freshmen have the same kind of glorious four years that we had. NVithout unexpected fortunes and misfortunes, how could our class be able to go out into the world, to stand up for our rights and our freedoms, and to hold such wonderful memories of high school days? NVe now leave this building with our intellectual and spiritual education to take our place in the state as we have taken and left our place at high school.
